Havent been to vegas in a few years, going in june midweek
want to stay in the good part of the strip, would like a good deal, hotel will be used mostly to crash.
luxor/excalibur/treasure island are very cheap even with resort fees, are they good value or is it worth ponying it up to stay at somewhere more upmarket?

If a moderate priced Hotel is what you're looking for (on the Strip) the three you have chosen are excellent choices; including the Tropicana. However, your frills will be limited. Understanding, all you want is a place to crash, and these four fit that need exclusively.
upmarket?
stay at a hotel that's new to the Strip, they're unlimited, and always have a good deal/promo in the works; Aria, Cosmopolitan, are two for consideration..
enjoy your stay

Aria opened in 2009, Cosmo in 2010, neither are really 'new' to the Strip. They can also both be quite pricey. They're both very nice, but you pay for those niceties.

Bollox-agree with sports-I stayed at Aria in 2014-more upmarket and great location on the strip-Ph is decent value too just across the strip from Aria/Cosmo...personally I find Luxor/Mandalay a bit off the beaten path, especially if you want to walk the strip or have a conference where you want to be close to the action.... You should find pretty good value for Vegas in late-spring/summer especially mid-week; you can expect some nice hot weather , good betting on ball and world cup without the 'books, restaurants being a zoo with crowds-have a good one!
thanks for the input doc, yeh world cup in the morning, baseball in the afternoon and poker in the evening with my buddies is the schedule!
