Make sure you are dealing with reputable agents. Many scams in Hawaii where someone sees a for sale sign on a home and cheat people into putting money down and not the legitimate owners. These scam artists are usually located in foreign countries so be careful, know who you are dealing with. A year of rent money can disappear if you give it to someone posing as the owner. There are many horror stories of people taking advantage of the aged and scamming them out of their property, losing title to their homes, etc. One teller tricked an elderly customer out of over 200k before her daughter realized what was happening. Was all done legally so this teller is now living in LV. Branch manager was inept and should have put a stop to this and was later told to resign. Somebody took the fall and of course it was not someone high up. Led to all kinds of cover up and finally bank repaid the loss but was unable to recoup the theft. Probably were afraid of law suits by the family. Another case a care-giver was able to swindle an elderly gent out his title to his home before authorities were able to find out what was happening. Just some of what you may need to know.
