Wander, MB has a big, open, spacious sports book with huge lines boards and all the big screens. You will enjoy it. Be sure to ask for some drink tickets when you place your bets.
-Lupo
-Red Square
-Aureole
-Stripsteak
As far as dining options go, if their buffet is very good. It's not at the top, like the one from Bellagio, but it is very good. The restaurant Lupo is very good. It's a Wolfgang Puck product. Moving up the price chain, go to Aureole. Pricey, but excellent. They have the 4 story wine tower in the middle of it. Cool to watch the wine angels go up and down to get the wines. I also like Red Square, a cool restaurant, that has a nice intimate setting. You can't miss it; it has a headless statue of Lenin in front of it.

If you're looking for a good steakhouse, then Stripsteak is very good. For southwestern/Mexican food, Border Grill is very good. All of the aforementioned restaurants are good and you cant go wrong with any.
Since you are in the south end of the strip, and you mentioned you want to stay in that area, may I recommend going to South Point. It has a great sports book and they are real good about giving out drink tickets. It's about a 10-12 minute drive from MB. Just turn right out of MB and stay on Las Vegas Blvd and it will on your right as you head south.
There's also the premium outlet mall as you head south to South Point. It will be on your left as you pass the airport. They have lots of shopping options and it's all in super close proximity to MB.
