New Year's Trip...........Thought Please

First of all Imperial Palace.....Haven't heard much about this place.  I know it's nothing special, but I will only be there one night on New Year's Eve.  Spending 4 days in Vegas Dec 30-Jan 2 and I'm getting a great deal from them on the 31st.  Is this place not that bad, or should I just pony up the cash for somewhere else?  Way I feel is that I'll be out on the strip all night and probably won't even be able to find my room on after the night's over.

Also plan on staying the other nights at two of these.....Any opinions?

Thanks MG....I'm young myself so I will probably be amongst that crowd on NYE so IP is probably fine for me.

Will probably try to stay around the middle of the strip to have easier access to more books. Finally realizing the importance of book shopping since moving to dimes, so thinking Bellagio and then CP or Mirage.

Any bars/clubs you recommend?

The deal they gave me for CP was double IP

Oh trust me I plan on taking full advantage of the open container law on NYE.  I guess they say no glass no cans and everything flies on the strip.  Not to mention my friend HIGHLY recommends having my fair share of beads.

If that is the case, hotel jumping sucks!!!!!!!!  Especially in Vegas, during a busy season, long lines and shit.  The only way I would switch hotels would be if you are staying 10-14 days, just to change it up.  You will be very happy at The Mirage, and just check out some of the others while you are there by walking in them.  The Mirage targets a younger, hipper crowd, they recently remodeled the hotel, and rooms, check it out!!  The rooms are priced reasonably also.  Then on your next trip, stay somewhere else!!!  Trust me!!  The IP is a dump, it has an old school sportsbook, but has a great location, and I am sure the rooms are dirt cheap!!

Out of your list, I like and I think you would like, MGM, The Hotel at Mandalay, Bellagio, and Mirage.  I would stay away from the Palm's, too far from everything.  The Wynn is very nice and elegant, it might be nice when I am 60, and I just have never had a good vibe from Caesar's, it is in a good location, but I have not been very lucky there.  I have stayed and won more at the MGM, and at the Mirage!!!  The Bellagio is very nice, and I will be there in October.  My favorite hotels, not on any particular order, The Bellagio, The Venetian, MGM, The HOtel at Mandalay, and The Mirage!!!!

          I lived in Vegas from 2000- 2002.New Years on the Strip wasn't all that, although I don't know if anything has changed since I was living there. Here are some of the issues:

 I read you are planning on jumping around the Strip on NY Eve. Here is the problem with that plan. I hit the strip around 10:30pm, I lived down the street from the old Stardust.Once on the Strip, the entire 4 miles were blocked off, no cars allowed. It was freaky walking down the middle of the street, kinda cool, but really weird. I didn't own a car when I was out  there, so I was fine with the set up. So, we decided to go to Treasure Island to have a beer and figure out where we were going to go. We get to TI and the doorman tells us we can't get in without a room key. We come to find out, every Hotel operates like this on NY Eve. Well, all the decent ones, they're all full. We wait 10 minutes then walk into TI with a crowd of people whom had key cards. We drink at TI until 11:55 and go outside to watch the fire works. Really cool vibe, " I'm in Vegas, it's New Years Eve,good stuff." So, after the works we start to walk down the strip, most of the hotels had temporary gates set up so you couldn't even get on their property without a key card. We look at each other, "WTF is this douchbaggery!" We get half way down the Strip, maybe a 1/4 mile past Bally's and we couldn't go any further.Literally we couldn't go any further, there were too many people. The crowd so pushing back, it was nuts.The crowd just stopped and then we started getting pushed backwards. People were bitching and pushing, Cops were yelling at people telling them to go back, it sucked. This happened in 2002, so I don't know if anything has changed. To make a short story long, we ended up at the New Frontier playing Blackjack and got smashed.Anytime you are playing B-Jack and getting smashed, it's OK. But, we were expecting much more than the way the night ended up. Also, we saw a couple fights, which was entertaining, but the whole scene was nuts. So, if you are planning on hopping around from say, MGM to the Wynn, etc...I don't think you'll be able to do that.You may be stuck at whatever hotel you stay at?  Maybe someone else can elaborate if anything has changed since 2002, but this is my NY Eve story in Vegas.Unless, things have changed on Dec 31, I would recommend going either the week before, or after. It will be MUCH cheaper and you will have a much better time, IMO.

Ken....I won't be jumping around the strip on NYE.  Just while I'm there for the 4 days or so I will probably stay at a couple hotels. Vegas is suppose to be a top NYE spot so figured I'd check it out. Was in Prague in the Czech last year for it so I doubt it will live up to that.  If anyone gets a chance I HIGHLY recommend it.

FRC....I could care less about lines here and there. I pretty much expect it around NYE.  Just really want to see which rooms I like the best for a longer stay in the summer.  I'm pondering the IP for the exact reasons you said. Great location for NYE and dirt cheap. May change my mind if I can find a deal from a hotel sometime this week before I book.  Going to be at the Mirage and Bellagio the other nights so that should make up for it.
