This one is more of an open-ended inquiry and I'm hoping some of my fellow Vegas addicts here on Covers could help out...
As I've mentioned before in this forum, I am very familiar with Vegas and go about once per quarter, but I have never been for March Madness. I am possibly headed out this year but would love to hear some feedback on just what the overall "vibe" and atmosphere is like out there.
I'd be going Thurs-Sat of the opening round. i expect it'll be extremely crowded at the books, but what about the strip in general? A few other things I'd love commentary on:
Any shift in general age demographic that's there?
Tables get higher limits due to activity in books?
Is it worth paying the premium for the room and dealing with crowds?
I'd love to hear some stories or desciptions on the vibe in the town. All responses welcome. Paint me a picture!

I've been out there twice for March Madness and twice on other weekends during the season.
A couple observations:
-Lines for the books to get a bet in are long, even at a place like the Hilton with a ton of windows. Compared to a normal NFL Sunday, I would say the lines are twice as long, at least before the first set of games every day.
-There seem to be slightly more males out there then what I see during other times.
-The tables were somewhat higher, but you also have to remember it's Thurs-Sat, with Thurs being St Patricks Day, so it's like a weekend the entire time. Hard to find a $10 table that's open. Everything pretty much $15 and up, unless its 4-8am.
I stayed at Ballys and the Flamingo, pretty cheap both times. Liked the location, middle of the strip. I get pretty cheap rooms there, though.
The crowd seems lively all over the town. Personally, for me, I'm a UNI grad, so I was ecstatic last year when we knocked off Kansas. Quite honestly, I felt like a minor celebrity because so many people were excited about the UNI win for the entire weekend, they kept coming up and wanting to talk about it.
A weekend in LV is always pretty lively, though, so in that respect, it's not like it was off the charts.

It always amazes me how many guests will be asking, "Where is a good place for me to go to watch the game?" fifteen minutes before before tip time. By then the answer is, "Back to your room?"
That being said, don't sweat it too much... The only way we risk NOT having a good time in Vegas is when we run out of money.

You think so? I'd say more like a generic Wednesday in Times Square. I think that spot is way more epic than a single hotel in Vegas.
Yeah this is going to be one of the rare times that I have ever disagreed with VG. If you have ever been at Times Square during New Years Eve you would understand. Nevertheless, Vegas in March (any part of March) is a great time. BOL!

...it was an "analogy".....and I grew up in Manhattan and understand the chaos at 42nd & 7th on Dec 31st.....
However, the passion for what happens on those first two days of March Madness in this town compared to some drunk guy looking to get laid by some drunk girl, IMHO, separates the two events greatly.

Never really seen anyone bring em in but I didn't know if there were any rules prohibiting them from being brought in and used in there. Anyone know? VG... LOL on the big BUT! As you have always said it really depends upon what you are looking for. Both experiences everyone needs to live once in their live time to understand. I think they are very different and definately not comparable. BOL!

Fan: Laptops are no problem...just stay away from the counter with them....Gonna give you a "curveball answer" to your question about long lines....
Get to The Sporting House at New York - New York....130 hdtv's, not a bad seat in the house...and a full-service betting kiosk connected to the sportsbook, which is right outside the door. The kiosk is new, doesn't get much attention, and as long as you know what you're doing, is a helluva lot easier than getting on line..especially for last-minute halftime bets...

I got comped rooms all week prior during the conference tournaments at Planet Hollywood and the flamingo and surprisingly Ceasers comped me for Friday and Saturday night prior to selection sunday, and during the first thursday of the tournament what casino has the most windows and most tellers. Kiosks are alright but for some reason I like actually verbally giving my plays in (don't ask why lol) and I'm more of a city guy, very loud during games and verbally aggressive I guess u can say lol. So where will the "loud" crowd be at during tournament time? Thanks for all the info, this is gonna be my first year there so I'm just doing some research to see.

My preference is Mandalay Bay....HIlton could be pretty good also, although off the Strip....got a car?...might try a local place like the South Point...

I'm hearing Mandalay Bay, but I don't think I've ever even been in there sportsbook area. At Caesers they have that large area in front of the poker room thats pretty nice, how is Mandalay Bay sportsbook compared to that?

Heading out to Vegas for the 1st round of the ncaa tourney from March 16th-21st. This is my 2nd time out there as I was there last year during this time. Was wondering where are the places to go for st. pattys day? Any info is appreciated

Mandalay Bay is quite large...very well lit, not in a corner like Bellagio....good large tv's (usually quartered when 4 games are going)....My fave for March Madness....
