Question for Vegas locals.....

    For those of you that frequent the local pubs, where do you like to go and why? I am a local bartender and was just curious as to where the locals are hanging these days. Any info would be appreciated.

Yardhouse is definitely a spot to hit up.....and I wasn't a beer drinker until I went into this place. At least there I mostly locals there......or where the people of Henderson/GV could actually meet the folks from Summerlin.

To start, I'll just say that I'm a bar guy. As in, after work, that's probably where you'll find me if I'm not at home or in a casino.

 

I've been here for over a year now and haven't found a favorite.  To tell you the truth, I haven't found one I really like. I'm not really into the chain places, like the Timbers, PTs, Lodges, etc.  Plus, there's just too many of them, so most of the time they're dead.  Although I do patronize them from time to time.  I'm not totally against those places, I just haven't found one I like.  Or I should say, I haven't found one with people that I like.  Really, that's what's it's all about.  Finding a place with people you can relate to.

 

I'm a happy hour guy, and I haven't been able to find a place that really has a true happy hour crowd.  Yeah, most places advertise happy hour prices, but they don't get a true happy hour crowd. 

 

I'm also getting really tired of playing the cat-and-mouse stupid shit with the bartenders with the drink thing and video poker.  I like video poker, I play a lot.  I also like to drink, I drink a lot.  But sometimes I don't mix the two.  Actually, most of the time, I just want a good damned beer and I'm happy to pay for it. I hate playing the vp game/drink game with bartenders. I got into it the other day with a bartender at Brewski's on Durango.  They were talking about how some places (like Sago's) track play and if you're not playing enough, no drinks.  So, I said if every place started doing that, I'd just stop playing.  She accused me of being a scammer, as in, the only reason I play is to get drinks, so if they're not giving drinks away then I wouldn't play.  That's not true at all!  My point was, I don't care about vp, I just want a fucking beer and stare at ESPN with no sound, like every other god fearing beer drinker does after work at the bar.

 

I'll tell you what I'd like to find:  a bar that has vp and lots of spaces with no vp machines.  A true happy hour with a good happy hour crowd.  Some place that's not too yuppie, but not too blue collar, something in between.  A nice mix of regular people, male and female.  

 

 

Mwc.....great write up. Exactly what I was looking for. I worked at PT's for 5 years as I think I told you before. I recently left there because they became Nazis about watching over people as they play making sure they get their $20 out of you for that 11 cents worth of bud lt. they are giving you. They also got rid of their happy hour. Not a smart move. But they dont care...they have 36 bars out here and the owner is content making his $600,000 a week,,,,,,yes thats right A WEEK. Thye have totaly lost the whole local feel to this town.

I have rcently took a position at a small chain of bars called the Outside Inn. Also have 2 sister bars called Martinis and Red Hawk. Everything a local bar should be. Great food...great gaming. Tons of givaways. They are not looking over your shoulder all day making sure you are playing like a madman. Good looking chicks at all locations. Golf outings for gamblers and so on. They really do it right. Thank God most bars out here are clueless ....it just makes our job so much easier.

So, I went to the Outside Inn on Hualapia last night and I couldn't believe it, but behind the bar was a new bartender I had met at the PTs on Durango.  I thought for sure it was you!  So, I call him over and say, "Hey, GrindItOut, what's up??!"  And he looks at me like I'm crazy.  He didn't know what the hell I was talking about. 

 

I later talked to him and one of the managers there, and they told me that yeah, they hired other bartenders from other PTs at their other location. 

 

What a weird coincidence that the new bartender at that location was an old bartender from a PTs!

Yes, it was Chuck.  I had met him before at PTs.  He seems like a good dude.  He worked for PTs for a long time, if I remember correctly.

 

Anyway, things have kind of changed in my life right now, so maybe I'll swing by and see you some night.
