I am from Chicago and I just can't stand the cold.... Have been talking for the last couple of years about moving to either Vegas or Florida... I was two and a half months away from moving to Florida; met a girl and never made it... Now the girl is gone so I am revisiting the moving situation....
If anyone has ideas on where to rent or buy it would be greatly appreciated.... The good parts of vegas... The place where younger people live.... general info from residents would be helpfull... Any website links to realestate rentals....
Thanks in advance...

Vegas has the #1 foreclosure rate, so you should be able to pick up a great deal bro. Florida also has a bad foreclosure rate, so its up to you. I think both places are awesome, but would have to choose Vegas for my addiction.

I have only become a member recently, but have followed your picks and posts for some time without commenting. You are definitely one of the best cappers around this place. I pretty much check your stuff each day to find out what square plays to avoid.
On to your question, my Dad lives out in Vegas, and I have been visiting the real Vegas for some time. You would love it out in Vegas, as long as you can handle being immersed in the 24/7 gambling mecca. If you are serious about going out there, I would suggest you look into a short-term rental so that you can meet people and find out areas you prefer for yourself. My Dad is out in the Summerlin area near Red Rock Country Club and the new Red Rock Casino. It is such a beautiful area, but for a single guy like you, you really need to be in an area where there are other single people in their 20s or 30s. I don't know what kind of $$$ you have to get a place, but you will do VERY WELL in Vegas right now in this buyer's market! You could buy a place at a huge discount, and then be sitting on a lot of equity when you look to sell and trade up or refinance when the housing slump ends in 2-3 years.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. I know Vegas (i.e., the off-Strip areas where regular people live) very well. What do you do for a living? Is your job/career portable?

Appreciate the kind words..... Do you have any internet links that would connect me to vegas real estate? I looked a long time ago, and the renters market was extremely cheap (compared to Chicago)... Do you or maybe your dad know any real estate agents?
I am proffesional gambler, but that is not my reason for moving to vegas... How weird does that sound? Am interested in moving somewhere warmer and have been talking about it for a few years now...Of course I would take advantage of some of the "strip life" but I have no problem living 10 to 15 miles away....
aslopher,
I am pretty liquid, but that is not a bad strategy...

Sorry guys for taking so long to repost. I meant it was funny, by you saying 10-15 miles away like that is far. I am pretty sure you can take care of strip life with ease, basically laughing at 10-15 miles away because that isn't far at all.

Gets in the 30's at night and around now the daytime high is around 55.
If you do move here, your wife and kids(if you have any), might not like it here.
So I would take a 2 week vacation to look over the town and compare to where you want to leave from.
I would rent first. Then if everything is Kosher with the family, buy \
30's is not very cold my friend.... I can't stand the 30 and 40 below wind chills.... I am a single guy, 25 so no wife and kids... If I were ever to move, now would be a good time... Still considering.... 2 week vacation is something deffinately worth considering..

I lived in Vegas around 4 years ago for about a year. The weather is great, and I moved from N. VA/DC and the humidity was a bummer, but the hot weather in L.V. is dry and after a while it is no big deal.
Job wise, forget it. People have ideas about going to dealers school, et cetera. Well, you start out making shit, and eventually (3/4 years) you move up and unless you hit one of the big casinos, it will also be shit.
Vegas has changed a lot since I started going there in the '60s. Summerlin is probably the best area to live in. Rent for 6 months and get a feel for the area. You have two or three casinos up in Summerlin (red rock and two others). Though it is 15 miles, it's not much really. Green Valley isn't bad. Stay out of downtown l.v. though for living purposes.
I got to the point where I would get up at 6:30 a.m., go to the sportsbook, eat breakfast, play a few shoes, and go work out. If you don't have money saved or something to fall back on for six months, good luck, as you will need it. Everyone has big ideas, big hopes, "I'm the best at this or that" attitude, but so are all the 5,000 coming in every week, and the 6,000 leaving every week. Houses in foreclosure are numerous. If you have enough cash, assume a loan. But wait until you get a feel for the area.
As I said, jobs are not great paying when you find them. If you have patience and can spend $200 a day for 2 months ($12,000) on the sportsbook and blackjack, and walk away after winning half of your $200 a day, then you will be all right. If you wait for a hot streak, you will be gone in no time at all.
