TONITE'S NFL GAME

Looking at tonight's game....this is why Vegas will ALWAYS make money and have a place in this faltering economy....

The public could not bet enough money on the Colts.....and even parlayed to the Celtics.....

...with no time remaining on the clock, a meaningless td created a push, and the extra point erased the the push and created the cover for Tenn....and, once again...sports betting becomes a source of income for this down-trodden town with the super-high unemployment rate.

The Colts and Manning got the win that they needed, and Vegas got the money it needed....amazing.

I don't say this as some old fart who loves to talk big when he thinks that he's right...BUT.....there are only a handful of people that have the ability (and the capital) to approach sports betting aggressively and with the desire/ability to make serious profits over an extended period of time....the rest???.....

The Public.

I re-read this posting and realize that it might be mis-interpreted...

I am not trying to bash anyone who bet the Colts...and I do not, regularly, bet pro football...so I am not trying to prove any point here about who should have covered.//

I was simply pointing out the fact that betting on sports, for 99% of the population, should be...has to be...recreational. It should be part of the enjoyment experience of the sport itself.  And, that betting on sports is, at best, a losing proposition for the bettor...which results in a negativity to the entire industry that is very difficult to repair.....I see this every day.

I apologize, in advance, if this posting was taken wrongly....Just thought that it was timely...in relation to this unusual game tonight.

VG--you are right, per usual, my group looked at the number,,saw the percentages at 70 % on the colts and 30 % on tenn and understanding that was a incredibly high number for a NFL game, as a group we felt that tenn was the right side for that reason alone- however as  gamers when we placed our various wagers to a man we all felt that indy would win & COVER- and needless to say were all last second losers- in my case the local book was the winner and I'm sure that scene was played out across the counrty--nice thread Sir, always enjoy reading your thoughts

I took the over in this one so I didn't care what happened after Tenn scored to make it 27-20, but I was just imagining how nuts the books must have gotten when that last second td was scored.

A lot of pissed off people and a couple very lcuky ones.

...and remember that pass that Collins threw that was short and over the middle..so they had to huddle quickly to stop the clock...

A pro like Collins with Super Bowl experience making a bonehead play on a meaningless drive.....just amazing....and the end result?

The public loses again....Which is why football is the most profitable sport in Vegas for the books....and it is really the one sport that carries the business for the rest of the calendar year.

If you want to fade the public, then, just remember, you must bet every game and have the bankroll to handle the action....

Understand, however, it is not just about winning a game vs the public....it's about winning in proportion to the amount that the public is wagering....they do not wager the same amount on every game; and, therefore, Vegas does not win or lose the same amount on every game....

OVER THE LONG RUN, VEGAS DOES WIN, however.

Hell yeah they win over the long run.  Great post man.  I've found that over the years, hitting 50% in nfl, nba, nhl is an achievement in itself.

You add juice into that equation an even at 50% you're down $$.

I guess it all boils down to money management... which I suck at.  I should have probably just stuck with poker as I win at a much higher % and my ROI has always been much better.
