Flew out of Cedar Rapids, IA early morning on Friday March 26, landing in Vegas about 9 am Vegas time. Took a cab to Treasure Island, got settled in, and then my dad and I hit the casino. First things first, stopped in at Caesars and placed two bets - Baylor -4 and Purdue +8. Baylor bet was $165 to win $150 and Purdue bet was $110 to win $100. After placing the two bets, starting walking the strip a bit. Some of the hottest, sluttiest women I have ever seen. After a while, my dad went over to Planet Hollywood to play a poker tournament, and I went to the Mirage to watch the basketball games with umgmu and his buddy. umgmu won on Tennessee, while I won my bet on Baylor easily (72-49). He put a bet in on Oklahoma City in an NBA game later that night, and I followed suit, betting $77 to win $70 (Oklahoma City +1). That ended up being an easy winner, while the Purdue bet lost.
Day 1 total: 2-1 sports bets; up $110
On Saturday, got up and had brunch at the Mirage (delicious), and went over to the sportsbook and placed a few more bets - Butler +4 ($165 to win $150) and West Virginia +4 ($110 to win $100). Both of those were winners. During the Butler game, I played in an $80 poker tournament at Planet Hollywood and finished in 2nd place, netting a nice profit of around $300. At night, we went to the new Cirque du Soleil show, Love, the Beatles won. Really good show. Not too much exciting about this day.
Day 2 total: 2-0 sports bets; up $550 (including poker)
2 day total: 4-1 sports bets; up $660
Sunday we got up early and had brunch at the Mirage again. I then started shopping around for lines. Wound up sitting out the first game of the day (Tennessee/Michigan State), and putting in the biggest bet of my life, so far, on Baylor +5 against Duke, $330 to win $300. Then played in a one-table, $50 sit-n-go at Treasure Island, went out fairly quick when my KK got busted by JJ on the turn. Baylor also failed to cover, not only costing me my bet, but costing me my pool as well.
Day 3 total: 0-1 sports bet; down $380
3 day total: 4-2 sports bets; up $280
We left mid-afternoon on Monday, but before we left, I put down a pair of bets on the following Saturday's Final Four games. Butler PK - $275 to win $250 and West Virginia +3 - $165 to win $150. The Butler bet won, and the West Virginia bet lost. I mailed in my Butler ticket and got a check in the mail about a week-and-a-half later.
Vegas total: 5-3 sports bets; up $365
Like I said, nothing too special on this trip. Just some bets and a little bit of poker. I also played a few table games, Blackjack and a little bit of cash-game poker, and lost about $15 total on that. So I ended my first Vegas trip up about $350. That may not seem like much, but to someone who usually bets between $30-50 on a game, it was a fairly successful trip.
I hope to have a more eventful trip when I go for next spring break. Hopefully it will be even more successful financially as well.
