    Yep...never been Sin Citied...

For my 40th, my wife has bestowed what can only be described as a married man's wet dream so to speak....FREEDOM in Sin City, Las Vegas...the Mother Land...

So here's the thing...I lived the party life for 10+ years...there's not much I haven't done or seen...course, that is a subjective statement when you don't know EVERYTHING that life has to offer...

So here's what I'm going down there with...about 5k in USD...I say that cuz I'm coming in from the great white north, otherwise known to my luvable US friends as Canada...or that cold place that breeds hocker players and is famous for not much other than the saying "eh" and the fact that our Thanksgiving is before yours..we are always more anxious to give thanks, expecially when it hasn't snowed on our ass by October...

So the main reason for the trip? None really...I've just never been...for a guy who's spent the latter part of his life playing poker and betting on sports, I've never been to Vegas...many have asked me if I plan on coming home...I laugh...the goal here gentlemen is to have a blast while I am down there.

5k is a sum that I aim to lose...so do ya get my drift? I ain't looking for a way to WIN money in Vegas...I am looking to EXPERIENCE Vegas like it needs to be experienced.

I plan on staying at the Bellagio or Caesars...both come recommended. I plan on playing in some WSOP events and I also plan on playing in some of the daily tourney's that both hotel's feature...UNLESS you all know a better place for me to be playing cards.

I play 2-5 and 5-5 weekly up in Niagara Falls and hold my own...but I know my game may not be any good in a town famous for wanna be's and loaded with loose money. The bottom line is I am hoping not to tank hard, but at the same time can accept losing because the experience is gonna be what I am looking for...

I know some of the card players on the site are at this moment tryin to track me down as FISH numero uno on its way to Vegas? Don't think of me as rent or whoore money fellas..I know when to step away.

But it's in the details that I am looking for your advice, recommendations, must sees and must do's...

I will be travelling solo, so I doubt I'll catch any shows or play any golf...I will probably stick to gambling and sightseeing...I like to smoke cigars(quit smoking cigs) so a nice place to sit back with my cuban fix and sip good booze is a nice place to start.

I also like the idea of a place where I can watch some entertainment that a single guy on the prowl might want to indulge in...keep in mind the bankroll of 5k which is modest and small by most Vegas standards I am sure.

I ain't asking you to work for free either...while I can't exactly pay you for your advice, I can tell you I'll be bringing the laptop and I plan on reporting back into this thread how things are going. Your knowledge will indeed be valuable to me and so I think it only fair that you see how I rate your recommendation.

Anybody reading this having been to Vegas solo, tell me what you did that you liked? Tell me what you did that was a waste of time or money....What was something you EXPERIENCED that you will NEVER forget?

Where is the BEST place to go to bet on sports where the seating is second to none, the servers are pleasant and nice to look at and I can relax with my feet up and watch a game while I drink for free(having very well tipped the gilrs of course).

Where is the BEST place a guy on his own can eat and enjoy and good bottle of wine? I am happy to spend 200$ on a meal if it's memorable...then again, I am also happy with a dive that makes a killer hot dog? Are ya feeling me yet? Whatever it is, it's gotta have a memory attached to it because building a repertoire of memories is what this trip will primarily be about.

I don't leave until the 29th of June and will be staying until the 3rd of July.

Any and all of your feedback, advice, questions, recommendations are all very appreciated.

    Take it eas,
    MG

Nice read Mickyg! I enjoyed it.

I just got back from the desert alittle over 2 weeks ago. It was also my first time. You may have read my story on the Vegas forum, if not, take a look and take notes.

I had the idea of wanting to play lots of poker out there...though I knew blackjack would be my downfall of the trip. And it was...lost have my bankroll in the first day, won alittle bit back the next, but it then slowly I ran empty. No doubt I had a good time, but starting off the trip like that wasn't my plan. Anyway, have a blast!

you can stay at the bellagio, but thats just gonna eat a grand of your dough....the hotel you stay at isnt important because you should only be going there to shower and sleep (unless you hook up!!).....save the money and find a nice but cheaper place and i would recommend somewhere middle of the strip (so nothing is too far away)...Mirage or MGM would do just fine.....

Also, it looks like everything is within walking distance....and it is....IF you wanna spend 30 min-2 hr walking in the Vegas summer heat...do yourself a favor and waste zero time and get a taxi everywhere. sure the money adds up, but walking is for exercise, not vacation.....

i would recommend playing in the tournaments that your hotel offers, usually several a day....that way you can conserve some of your bankroll and strat each day off with some poker....with a chance to win a decent amount if you do well while risking a relatively small amount....also, find out when the Bellagio and the other high class joints have their tournaments and you can play several a day to get your poker fix while not having the risk of putting you bankroll on the line in one hand....

i would recommend the outdoor bar at Harrahs for some drinks and margaritaville for a decent "guy" meal....there are tons of clubs and shit to go to, but you dont sound like the club kinda guy...

Take one night and go to old town. This is a must. Go see the freemont express street show, walk around and people watch and buy a huge hurricane to sip on while strolling.... and play some balckjack at each of the 4 casinos....it will be worth the trip, trust me....

gl bro and have a great trip !!!

Def worth the trip...different older group of tourists I would say, but the atmosphere is great. Drinks and food are super cheap. Was walking in one of the casinos not even playing, and the waitresses were offering free shots! You could have just circled the machines and gotten drunk for free! The light show is worth the cab fare as well.

Last time i went with all guys this year we ate all our meals off the strip downtown. There was a rule no buffets this time ans got some great meals at the right price where the locals eat.We ate breakfast and lunch usally on the run but a sit down dinner every night.

Please be carefull thos $200.00 dinners on the strip at those big name places  can be replaced downtown for much less and these were not dives. Steaks, prime rib, seafood, pasta, and ribs with apps and dessert for under $100.00 per person.

GOOD LUCK ENJOY and  rebember the exchange rate.

The Wynn buffet is like $30 and you get high quality food that if you paid for seperately would be like one of those $200 meals. If you can put away food and eat a lot of different stuff (unlike me on the 2nd one) its a great deal I think

Some will mention to stay at the MGM, which has already been mentioned now that I read some other replies, but If you stay there, I would avoid the sportsbook.  Not to come off cheap, but I just recently placed a 5k bet, and I was refused a free drink.  I order a beer, had two dollars waiting for her to come back, and while laughing she said "it's $7 and I can careless what your meeting with management was about"....The meeting was about placing a 5K wager which took an arm and a leg to place. Basically two calls had to be placed by management and eventually all the people within the sports book knew of my wager.  I don't take kindly when my 5K is just being waved around for everyone eyes to see.

I've never had a experience like this before when it comes to drinks.  If my wagers are high, which normally they are 1k or more, I will have to wait a couple more minutes for approval by the sportsbook management.

Ridiculous to be treated with such disdain by the casino, but more insultingly by "wait staff"...it amazes me that these people who are supposedly in the business of keeping the patrons happy, satisfied, and spending money; do everything in their limited power to make your experience a crappy one.

I mean cmon...5 dimes? Is this Vegas or the local college boookie? Is the MGM really in danger of having their liability on your wager exceed their padded resources? Totally fucking unacceptable...

The problem with those in life who have a sense of "entitlement"; as in your laughing server chick is that life has a funny way of coming back to bite you in the ass...If this moron gets 2$ from 200 people per day, this is 400$ in income...likely for someone who was likely lucky to make it past high school...the next time you get that laugh, you tip NOTHING!

I really look after those who look after me...that's what I woulda told her...I'm more put off by your story regarding the service rather than the bet...uptight serving broads with a bloated sense of self importance likely brought on by the size of their pre-paid tits absolutely make me puke...but hey...I'm the one with the money...and she isn't.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I'm going from June 28th to July 3rd, also solo.  I've been before though.  I stay at the Paris.  The casino is small and crappy, but the rooms are cheap and it is directly across the street from the Bellagio.  You can't beat sports at the Bellagio.  Everyone likes their pokerroom, but I find it to be too cramped.  I'm going to probably play Event 54 in the WSOP, which is $1500 buy-in NLHE.
