For what it's worth the 8 guys on press row I sit with to report on fights 4 had St Pierre 4 had Hendricks.......
St Pierre had more strikes and an 1 more takedown over the fight.
That is difficult to comprehend when you look at the 2 fighters after the fight and your eyes tell you who won.
Hopefully Hendricks will learn if you are going to beat the champion when he is probably the most popular UFC fighter of all time you better do so convincingly. With the entire arena behind GSP and the scrutiny the judges have come under there has been a lot of talk about a crowds ability to impact score cards. I think that is clearly what happened here tonight.
Hendricks looked like he could have taken GSP down 2-3 more times in rounds 4-5 and I think that would have been the difference in him winning the fight vs losing a tight decision.
I think before any of us pass to quick of judgement on the decision and GSP's victory we should probably see the individual score cards and see what rounds were scored for GSP. I think there were clearly 2 rounds Hendricks won easily 1 GSP clearly won so if the other 2 coin toss rounds went GSP's way it is what it is. I will have a much harder time with the decision if any judge gave GSP the 2 rounds Hendricks clearly won.
Just one man's view

One other comment to consider.....if you look at the entire 5 rounds there is no doubt Hendricks inflicted more damage and beat George up but the reality is you have to look at these fights as 5 separate 1 round fights cause they aren't scoring anything 10-8 in a championship fight. So while Hendricks may have had a much large margin of victory in his 2 rounds the judges gave him if George wins 3 rounds even by the smallest of margins and Hendricks smashes George in the other 2 rounds.... George still wins the fight. That is just the way the scoring goes.
WILL BE A VERY INTERESTING PRESS CONFERENCE THAT IS FOR SURE !!!!

Yep. One man's view and it means nothing to the vast majority of the people that watched that fight. You can try to spin it anyway you want. Hendricks won the fight and there is ZERO question about that.
I don't care about what 'could have happened'. We all watched it and know what we saw. Most of the people that bet on the "right side" feel very grateful for their win because THEY KNOW that they REALLY LOST.

Guess it wasn't just ones mans view cause 2 of the only 3 views that mattered agreed ...... I am not saying GSP won the fight I am saying there could have easily been a case made either way and the decision isn't nearly as bad when you look at the numbers as it is when you look at the fighters faces.

Just saw the actual scorecards.....the 2 judges that gave fight 48/47 to GSP had him winning rounds 1 / 3 / 5 judge that had Hendricks winning 48 / 47 gave GSP round 3 /5 so the "deciding" round based on the scorecards was 2 of 3 judges giving GSP round 1 which I have hard time understanding how he won round 1 myself.

How are you having a hard time with that? GSP had a strikes landed lead after the 1st round and he had a takedown in that round. Besides those elbows (from a defensive position mind you), Hendricks did close to nothing that round.
Its not about who bleeds folks, its about execution and scoring. This is a very close fight...

Does anyone know how judges go about scoring a fight? Do they have access to any stats (TDs, different kinds of strikes)? Do they score after the round, and then that score is "locked in"?

refer, You are absolutely right. Many times I've thought one fighter won a close fight and was wrong. Do these people not see how razor close this fight was? There are a lot of people who don't see the nuances of this type fight. Did no one see the last Jones fight? Same thing.
All refs scored it exactly the same except for the first round. That first round was pivotal. In other words 4 of 4 rounds they totally agreed and in the first round 2 liked GSP and 1 liked Hendricks. I can't argue with that. It was that close.
I thought Hendricks won and I thought Gustaffson won and I thought Bonnar won and many others won but they didn't and the sport is better for all this controversy. The UFC had a great fight on the anniversary. GL, Doc
