Okay, I'm planning a trip to Vegas mid-December but not probably for the UFC show as I have to return back home before then. I'm seriously contemplating to place my biggest wager on the Silva/Weidman fight. I just checked the odds for this fight and it's even at -110. I'm sure it may fluctuate slightly but when it comes to fight day, it won't be a significant change. As of now, I want to put 10K on Anderson Silva to avenge his loss against Weidman. I understand this fight can go either way, as any fight can, but I believe Silva won't lose this rematch if he takes it seriously. You guys probably have heard that over and over again but I can see the old Silva dominating Weidman and end this fight late in the 1st round. I don't think Silva wants to re-live through that same feeling when he woke up from that vicious KO again.
Please talk me out of this huge bet with legitimate reasonings if you think Weidman retains the middleweight championship belt.

This is a tough one and I'll probably stay out of it. However, if I were to bet, I'd bet on Weidman I think.
Here are the reasons in no particular order:
1. Silva might be getting tired of MMA. I understand he said as much in an interview before his loss to Weidman. He might be tired of being the champion and just wants to settle down with his kids now.
2. Weidman has the whole package - a great wrestler and striker. He's also fairly new to the sport so will be improving. I can envision a fight where Weidman repeatedly takes Silva down, similar to the Sonnen vs Silva #1 fight, but Weidman is a better athlete than Sonnen. Weidman got the takedown early in their first fight, and I don't think Silva defended it all that well, even though he did stand up fairly quickly.
3. Silva is getting up there in years at 39. He might not have the stamina for a grueling 5 round fight, whereas Weidman is in his prime. This could be the typical, "new school fighter takes the place of old school fighter" scenario. Silva is possibly slowing down in speed in his age as well. Weidman is still relatively new to the sport so is improving all the time whereas Silva is declining.
I think Silva needs to fight like he did his very first fight in the UFC vs Chris Leben. He had great footwork and precise striking. Will this loss light a fire in Silva's belly and make him come back meaner and faster and with a vengenance? I hope so but have my doubts.

I'll be back in the states and would like to throw a 100 unit bomb at Vegas (probably split 1K x 10 tickets) at even odds (-110) on Anderson Silva. Since his dismantling of Rich Franklin, the odds have never been close to even during his reign as the MW champion. He let his guard down and his cockiness got the best of him but if he can avoid Weidman's takedowns, Silva should win this fight. He started to tee off on Weidman but again, he put his hands down and got caught with the KO. I just don't think that will happen again. My only concern isn't the standup, it's more like Chael Sonnen-esque takedown and ground and pound. I still have some time to think about this but this is the fight I'll be closely monitoring leading up to the event.

If Silva were to lose this rematch, where would he go from there (given he honors the 9 fight contract)? If he's not concerned about the $ and plans to retire anyway then this line makes sense.
I just can't see him ending his career with two straight losses to Weidman and leaving a ton of money on the table

lots of people called him out for even "fixing" the fight and losing on purpose. i think he comes back on top and finishes weidman. i think weidman has a puncher's chance and i believe he will be throwing some serious bombs to try to flash KO Silva again. it's a huge risk and i'm afraid of Silva getting taken down, if he does within the first minute..it will be a long tough match for Silva. however, if he can stuff the takedown attempts and frustrate weidman like he was beginning to until the left hook connected then it will be a one sided affair for the former champion.

i was rooting for SILVA big time in the first fight and will be again in the second fight but i dont think Silva can defend the takedowns that Weidman will be going for... he got the takedown in the first round and ground and pounded him pretty good, then SILVA got in his head and stopped going for them, i dont think that will happen this time... i think its over for Silva.. weidman is to young and to strong

i agree that weidman is too strong for silva and he can easily take him down early in the fight. but if this fight goes past 2 rounds, i think it's silva's fight to win. i just can't imagine silva not being cocky again. still months away!

problem is i dont think it is going past 2 rounds, i think weidman is going to ground and pound him for a tko this time rather then go for a submission like he did last time... weidman is an animal, he is focused, he wants to prove to everyone it was not a fluke,,, i would actually be quite surprised if silva wins.. i will be rooting for silva big time though
