He is. But Faber is a durable warrior who deserves benefit of doubt there.  He was getting slapped in the hand and responded with a thumbs up to Dean while his other arm was busy holding Barao so he couldnt mount his back.  He wouldve lost anyway but I wanted to see more.

It was a poor stoppage. I don&#39;t think anyone could disagree. Herb is a great ref but it&#39;s happened like this before. He has to know the situation. He has to realize this is fabers probable last chance and he would want to be carried out. You have to give him the benefit if the doubt that he can battle through in that situation. its not the referees position to know if this is a fighters last chance or not when determining, in a split second, if a fight should be stopped.it is the referees position to stop a fight if a fighter is not intelligently defending himself especially when a fighter has given his back and is unintentionally susceptible to strikes behind the back of the head(rabbit punches) which are the most damaging blows to a fighter that can cause the most damage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_punch

Q I respect your opinion. More than mine in this sport. But don&#x27;t you think a ref generally gives a fighter more time to get out of a bad situation in a title fight than in a regular fight? And I also think it applies to veteran fighters that he would know intimately. I watched the stoppage again. I don&#x27;t think any of those hammer fists were doin damage. Not significantly

this article was mostly focused on boxing where they have 8-10 ounce gloves as opposed to the four-ounce in mma

one single punch couldve caused irreparable damage to faber.

i agree if urijah was face-up it wouldve been a bad stoppage but i believe that all mma refs are justifiably quick to pull the trigger when they see a fighter in a position that could result in a blow to the back of the head for the above reasons

Thought it was an ok stoppage considering what happened. Definitely wasn't worst stoppage ever or too quick.

I doubt he would have stopped it had it been the first time Faber had been rocked in the fight. Problem was, he got rocked plenty before this point and it had become a pretty lopsided fight leading up to the stoppage.

I&#x27;m gussing he will get a title shot soon enough at 145 when Aldo goes up to 155 since Barao said he is staying at 135 for whatever reason.  If he&#x27;s fighting someone not named Cruz, Barao or Aldo, Faber has a good shot of winning

I think Barao influenced Dean to step in and stop it. He was signalling that "hey he&#x27;s done" Faber covering his head, belly flat on the canvas and not improving his positioning. i felt Dean, after the fight, knew deep down that he mistakenly halted the fight prematurely.but Uriah displayed good showmanshpi and said it&#x27;s cool Dean.
