The mauler is a beast. He really impressed me when he fought Jon Jones, some even say he won that fight. I won't get into that though.
He's been submitted once and lost a decision to Jon Jones (considered the #1 PFP fighter). He's never been KO'ed and now he has to fight a guy that has won 13 of his 14 fights by KO/TKO. I see the angle here that Manuwa could get a lucky punch, but let's not kid ourselves, Gustafsson has amazing standup, and I think it's actually good that Manuwa is a stand up guy.
How are you guys feeling about this fight? I have a couple decent sized parlays pending on Gustafsson.

I think Manuwa is being overlooked by many. He has never been close to being outstruck in his career, and now it's a given that Gus oustrikes him? Alex has the height/reach advantage and excellent movement but he doesn't have the power that Jimi does. In his last fight Alex displayed excellent defense against Jones's wide array of unorthodox strikes but still got caught ocassionally. Jimi's strikes should be easier to avoid than Jones's but will pack much more power if they do connect. I see Alex staying on the outside and peppering Jimi with shots but having trouble putting combinations together and landing with power. I think his gameplan will involve taking Manuwa down but Jimi seems solid there as well so it's not unlikely this fight could be a long war. I've been a Gustafsson fan since the Diabate fight and I don't think I'm selling him short (I still favor him in this fight), I just think people are overlooking Manuwa. He's much better than, say, Thiago Silva.

Gusto is going to pepper him from the outside. He's too big. And if the striking feels hazardous to him he can probably get the fight to the ground whenever he wants.
