if you listen to cormiers sherdog interview, he didnt want to go to the ground with both bigfoot and the snowman because he is very confident in his stand-up ability.
or perhaps he just isnt confident enough in his jj defense and is more concerned about getting subbed than he is about getting ko'd on the feet.
barnett looked to be in the best shape ive ever seen him but if he cant get cormier down i just dont think he will have anything left after the second round if the damage sustained is equal to both fighters.

I have had Barnett circled for a while, and well before my little cold snap. It will be interesting to see how it plays out...

Awsome write-up! I could not agree with you more!!!

At heavy weight, I think the statement is fairly acurate. The only one who would be close would be Velasquez. I agree that Pound for pound, maybe he is not...
The only thing I would caution about is that MMA wrestling is not the same as Olympic wrestling. Heck, MMA wrestling it is not even the same as amatuer (college, high school) wrestling. We have seen many guys with elite college wrestling careers have ineffective MMA careers because it turned out that they could not effectively transfer their amateur wrestling to MMA. We have really yet to see whether DC can translate his Olmpic wrestling in MMA against a high caliber opponent.
This is a huge step up in class for DC. Although DC looked amazing against Big Foot, Big Foot is slow and cumbersom in the standup and is nowhere close to Barnett in pretty much all facets of MMA.
All I can say, is that it will be very interesting to see how this all plays out. I personally would not have wagered 15 units on either of these guys tonight, but hopefully it will play out for you tonight...,

"2. Parlay of Gilbert Melendez over Josh Thomson and Rafael Cavalcante over Mike Kyle. Risking 2.4 units to win 2 units."
you gotta add more U's to this one

Cavalcante has me worried a bit...
Kyle has already beaten him once before...

Well, the Barnett fight definitely did not play out as I was expecting. Barnett breaking his hand in the first round definitely did not help matters. It might explain why he was not able to put Cormier away with that knee bar attempt in the 4th, when it looked like he had it locked up. Barnett normally would finish that. I still question his game plan. Only 2 takedown attempts, and very little dirty boxing up against the cage, which I thought would be a big part of his game play.
Despite all that, my hat off to Cormier. He fought a really good fight, and definitely used his speed and deceiving athleticism to his advantage in this fight.
Overall, the plays went 1-2 for -4.65 units. Despite that, my 3 other leans all would have cashed if I would have played them, which at least gives me some confidence that I am starting to read things a little bit better. I will update my record in the morning when I am "a little more with it"...
