“This moment is a true blessing. I didn’t do everything I wanted to in the fight but I made the most of my moment. Branch didn’t come in as fast as I thought he would so it took some time to feel him out but I’m just very happy to have a moment like this in the most legendary arena in the world. I feel like middleweight is much better for me and my body. I felt fast and powerful and I had no problem making the weight on short notice. I have a ton of respect for David Branch for taking the fight. I know Dana was impressed with the performance so I think this will push me up the rankings and that I can make some noise at middleweight. I only had two fights left on my deal and this was one of them so I look forward to climbing the rankings. My goal is the same as it’s always been: gold.”

R3: Souza still hasn't gone for a takedown. Hard to know why. Kick to the body from Jacare. Three-punch flurry connects for Souza. He backs Weidman up with a right hand. Down goes Weidman!

R3: Jacare refuses to finish him thinking the fight is over. Weidman grabs onto a leg to try to take him down as Souza protests. Finally referee Dan Miragliotta jumps in to call a halt to it. What a finish from the veteran Jacare!

Souza: "Thanks God my nose was not broken. I was born on the wrong side of the track and my nose is not broken. I want to say I love Chris and he is a hero and he is a legend of the sport. I feel so bad for him and respect him. He is one of the best in the world."
