I was going to write this last night but didn't - but since MMAjunkie is writing about it, I will too.
WTF kind of judging was that in the Cerrone and Garbrandt fights?
1) His weird interference had no real impact on the outcome. Cody said he saw Mendes' eyes rolled back so he stopped. BUT! after the punch Yamasaki gets in the Mendes' field of vision (lets say he was recuperating), so that Cody hid behind the ref - Pops out from behind him and hits him again. Horrible reffing.
2) Then with Cerrone - I have never seen a guy tap in full view, on his chest, 5-6 times, before carrion pointed to him tapping. It was like 10 taps. If that was Palhares with the submission, Oliveira would have his head ripped off!
I don't understand how one of the longest working refs in the UFC can be so incompetent. And this stuff happens all too regularly.

Yamasaki never ceases to amaze me. How do you just step in between two fighters like you're calling the fight, then change your mind and hop back out of the way, only to let Garbrandt land another power shot when Mendes thinks the fight might be over? Make up your mind! And I don't know what he was doing in the Cerrone fight. Taking a nap? Cerrone basically laid there pointing at the tap and just screaming at Yamasaki to get his head out of his rear. Luckily for Oliveira, he wasn't seriously injured. You've got refs allowing guys to grab the fence a billion times without ever taking a point, meanwhile those grabs can significantly alter the outcome of the clinch/scramble/takedown attempt. Groin shots not being seen. Numerous eye pokes with just continuous warnings and no point deductions. Standing fighters up when someone is in a dominant position and working. Between that and the incompetent judges, it really puts a lot of pressure on the fighters to finish their opponent if they want to ensure a victory.

i agree, J Money. Beyond Yamasaki, there are some critical inconsistencies:
- fence grabs can make a huge difference in a fight and are rarely penalized. Some refs pull the fingers off, some give a couple warnings. I often wondered if they could make a mesh (that fingers can't go through) rather than a cage
- shots to the back of the head - happen way more than is ever penalized
- eye pokes might be the worst. There should be NO SUCH THING AS AN ACCIDENTAL EYE POKE. Don't put an open hand in an opponent's face. Simple
- knees/kicks to downed opponent. sometimes a pt deduction, sometimes a DQ, there has to be a solid rule

You take the case of Mitrione a few weeks ago. Two blatant eye pokes. He is basically forced to fight on. He would be called out for quitting. He'd lose his chance for win bonus, etc. It happens all of the time when guys get hit in the groin 2-3 times without penalty. And the fighters are forced to fight at disadvantage and continue.
Of course I never want to see a fight end. You want the fight to continue. But there has to be a change to the unenforced violations

I can't understand what you're saying. But since this threads at the top and there was another slight judging mishap with bispings mouthpiece. It was odd. Happened quick. Tough to blame anyone really But dean made an effort to seperate then backed out
