Before requiring a second Tommy John surgery, Kris Medlen was pitching like a #1 or #2 starter. He has talent, and has shown in 14.1 relief innings this year that he's still got it. The Royals finally decided to bench Guthrie and to give Medlen a rotation spot. Not only should this be an emotional start for him, but he's pitching to prove to himself and his team that he deserves to be a starter. Ubaldo Jiminez has struggled pitching away from Baltimore, with a 4.61 ERA and only 3 quality starts in his last 9 appearances. In addition, the Baltimore bullpen got worked a bit in their series vs the Twins with all those 1 run games and last night's 12 inning game. I love the Royals at home today and believe that Medlen should get some run support.

Lineups for Cubs vs Indians game are posted and Cubs are showing a .256/.346/.438/.784 advantage over the Indians at .275/.336/.389/.725. The good thing about Lester getting blown out by the Tigers in just 2.2 innings is that he should be fresh for this one. Also keep in mind that was against a loaded Tigers offense that hits lefties like an all-star team. These Indians cannot hit southpaws with that same power and consistency. Kluber has a 4.17 ERA in away parks this year, and this is his first start at Wrigley Field in his life. The winds are blowing out at 16-20mph towards the right, which should help the Cubs lefty bats. In addition, I much prefer a groundball pitcher in these conditions and Lester happens to be a groundball pitcher vs a flyball pitcher in Kluber. The juice isn't too high because Kluber is the former Cy Young winner, but in today's game the Cubs are the team better suited to win.

The winds ended up helping the Cubs out in the end on that last homer. And how about those groundballs to force 4 double plays by Lester? What a game..

I'm on Kansas City as well. Medlin the Kansas City starter will only pitch 60 70 innings, because he is just easing back in after Tommy John surgery. But Kansas City has the best relief staff in baseball with an ERA of 2.35! They are a dominant 42 and 20 at home.
The big reason to make this bet is Jimenez is done. He has an ERA of 5.5 for the last two months. His above average fastball is lone gone.

Solid write ups.

Jhoulys Chacin is sporting a 5.40 ERA with the Rockies this year, and those Rockies lost 9 out of the 11 games that Chacin started. Today, he's filling in as an injury replacement for the Dbacks and is matchup up against the #1 team in baseball and a proven hurler in Lance Lynn. The Dbacks have a slight advantage in bats tonight at .456/.798 SLG/OPS splits vs the Cards at .441/.769. However, I feel that the advantage offered by Lynn and the Cards superior bullpen far outweighs the Dbacks slightly better batting numbers.
