Eveland has not been impressive as of late, but had some decent outings earlier in the season.  Silva is pitching really well, but you have to take the Cubs record against Pitt into consideration.  Pitt has totally owned them this year.  On paper it looks like the Cubs are the play.

I'd bet the Rats bats are quiet today. And no, not just because they're the "Rats" (well maybe a little). But they scored 6 and 5 runs respectively over the weekend and if you take a look at their runs scored so far this season you'll see they have yet to put together 3 consecutive games where they produced enough runs to support their pitcher.

Also, the largely publicized start for Stephen Strasburg is tomorrow. Do you think that wasn't well thought out by the Nats organization??? Who better than the Rats when making your Big League debut?? My gut tells me Pittsburgh is taking offence to this. Does this mean they'll win ?? Probably not. But that game is circled on the calender.....guarenteed!

Taking the Pirates with the +1.5 at a decent price (-120)

Silva will falter soon, and Pitt have hit the ball ok lately. Could easily be a 2-1 type game either way.

I agree the Rats will be thinking about the Straussburg game, but I think it will give them more incentive to go and do something tomorrow ... not less.

One of us will probably be right in about 6 hours time.

Also, don't overlook the new pitcher getting a 2nd chance angle.

CHC 25-31, Road 11-18: Carlos Silva R (7-0, 3.12) B+ is making his first start against the Pirates.
PIT 23-33, Home 14-14: Dana Eveland L (3-4, 6.45) B- is making his first start against the Cubs.
Ephemerides note: Silva ^SUtPL good, Eveland maybe
Translation: Silva with a favorable Sun alignment means he'll pitch well today.
 
Silva have been pitching well anyways. He's on a new level since a full recovery from an injury and family matters involving his mother.
 
Marlon Byrd is a lefty killer and i think he'll do well today against a shaky Eveland. This might also mean another consecutive start for Tyler Colvin as Fukadome struggle against lefties.
