[/Quote]Well he isn&#x27;t a phenom but from reports he has a great curve and pretty good command.   Obviously most people are better than J Sanchez or Wandy.  Maybe the Pirates scouts are to blame for not recognizing talent?  They obviously haven&#x27;t had much success in the recent decade or two.  Is he better than Mat Latos? Most likely not, but can he come in today and hold down some slumping Reds bats?  Quite possibly.  This is his major league debut and he knows if he does well he may actually earn a spot in the rotation somehow.

No trap here....Irwin comes in as a spot starter, on a Pirates team desperate for SP rotation. Latos (two quality starts, and ND to his credit) is an established veteran, with no comparison toe punch handicapping value; the Reds are loaded with offensive punch, today they pound Irwin, who is ripe for the pickings, and a strong lean on the Reds FFI play

Reds have lost 4 straight scoring a combined 7 runs. (3 runs from Phillips hitting 2 HR)  Sure they have POTENTIAL, but what team doesn&#x27;t.  Reds bats are fairly cold right now.
