I just read a yahoo article about some recently made public documents of the Balco Grand Jury investigation. To make a long story short, the main drug THG "the Clear" Bonds was accused of taking, was not an illegal drug when he was supposed to have been taking it.
The feds knew it and essentially were trying to get him and other athletes to perjure themselves so they could get a conviction... any conviction.
“It sounds like a misuse of the grand jury,” said John Bartko, a
former assistant U.S. Attorney in San Francisco who has tried perjury
cases. “They go and try to trip the guy into lying.”
The government believes it has tripped Bonds, but whether he falls
will be determined in court. The fact that the key drug he is accused
of taking was legal and not recognized as a steroid under federal law
could complicate the case, experts say."

Can someone please sign him now... one of the greatest baseball players in the history of the game is rotting away the last few years of his career... while Giambi, Pettitte, Gagne, and every other player indicted continues to play away because they didn't have half the numbers of Barry Bonds

SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds is seeking to bar a former mistress from testifying at his March trial about alleged rages and physical changes caused by steroids.
The home-run king is accused of lying to a federal grand jury that was investigating steroid use among elite athletes in 2003. He told the jury he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs, and prosecutors say they can prove otherwise.
In a court filing Thursday, Bonds also sought to block much of the government's known evidence against him, including urine and blood samples that allegedly tested positive for steroids, as well as a "doping calendar" purportedly kept by Bonds' former personal trainer.
Bonds has pleaded not guilty to perjury and obstruction charges.

He was a superstar for 10 years before any of the suspected steroid use. Gold glover, great baserunner, great hitter. Half the pitchers he was facing used all the same stuff. Who cares. The guy is a fabulous hitter to watch and I'd like to see him DH a couple years. This guy has taken an absurd amount of abuse for an entire era of players. In my mind, let em use whatever they need to stay healthy and perform. I can get drugs from a doctor to heal an injury better, why can't our great athletes do the same. I understand the harms of certain steroids but much of this stuff can be very helpful without the downside.
