Not exactly sure what this guys mindset is in leaving leiter in two consecutive innings to give up bombs. Then with bases loaded one out in the ninth he leaves mastrobuouni in. This guy is not even hitting his body weight. Whiffs on basically a ball to strikeout and clearly look outmatched against a substitute closer. Pitch hit the guy, mastrobuoni has literally one RBI and no homers. Gotta wonder if this guy could even get the sac fly. Just dont understand why these managers just phone it in.

Because its a long season. He is on the roster for a reason. Like Lou Brown said... lets see what he is made of. I have a feeling this kid is due. Definitely a game the Cubs should have won. But this is why one of many reasons baseball sucks to bet on.

Bottom of the 9th bases loaded... the count was 3-0 and pretty sure that pitch was a ball.. That would've walked in the tying run and we'd have a completely different outcome.

I think Cubs might gotta screwed at the end.

klaister- Agree definitely a couple balls that should have been called. I would only argue that Ross had the wrong players in to begin with. First with leiter getting shelled in 2 innings and mastro clearly not able to catch up on a fastball. Umps make bad calls all the time but the players still need to be playing at a high level. Was clear when leiter gives up the go ahead run he should not have been back in for the next inning. And mastro has no business in a clutch situation. Appreciate all the comments.

I am sorry but that is utterly idiotic. There are also some relievers on the team which you would not use in the highest leverage situation possible because "it is a long season" and they are "on the team". 29 of the 30 other managers would have pinch hit gomes for him vs a lefty closer and thus get a guy with .270/.735 who rakes vs lhp in general as opposed to a guy with .149/.464 and then let morel and his .282/1.024 hit. It isn't even an argument, but that is why cubs +5 runs and 24-31 on the year

I was commenting on the OP and his opinion about pinch hitting for Mastrobuoni? No comment on Leiter, Jr.
