Harvey Keitel plays a New York City detective who takes bets from coworkers and delivers to his bookie during Mets Dodgers NLCS series. Los Angeles has won the first three games and Keitel and his crew have made good money betting the Dodgers. He also thinks that L.A. is going to sweep so he connivingly convinces his guys that the TV networks want the series to go seven games and to switch sides and start betting the Mets. That way he doesn't have to really put their wagers in and can use the previous winnings to bet large on L.A. and never have to worry about paying them out. New York wins the fourth game and Harvey tells them to let the winnings ride with the Mets while he continues to double down on the Dodgers. New York ends up winning the next three games and completing the improbable comeback to take the series four games to three. Keitel's final game bet I think was either fifty or a hundred k which the bookie fronted the money, needless to say things didn't work out well for him in the end.
