Been a Pirate fan for all my life. Ive watched them kick ass back in the 90's and crumble time and time again since.
This is the best that the pirates have been im sure the bulk of you have noticed.
But this is the end of the road for them. I have no doubt in my mind that they will finally break a .500 season. BUT! Gone are the days of the being near invincible at home. Gone is Andrew Mccutchen's MVP bid. Gone are the hopes of any playoff dreams.
As soon as the trading deadline passed...they have gone sour. This is NOT the same team. 33% of the starting roster is not the same as the winning team. Pirates SHOULD have left the team alone but they did not.
I highly recommend taking opposing teams in 3 days series bets from this point on. I highly recommend betting against the following pitchers: Corriea, Karstans, Wandy, Bedard.
Burnett and Mcdonald games are games they generally have won and will continue to win with.
Pirates will average 1 out of 3 from this point forward. You heard it here first, from a true pirate fan.

Did you see ump Tschida screwing reliever Cruz on calls, then shaking his finger at him like he was showing him who's boss when he questioned him. Can't blame Cruz for being pissed, really messed up his game. Ended up costing Pirates the deciding run tonight. Made me wonder if they had a past history as it was obvious all close pitches were deliberately not being given to Cruz.

i completely disagree, with the pirates falling down the road, the manager, hurdle simply will not let this happen. not only will hurdle not let this happen, leaders on this team such as mccuthcen, walker, and jones wont either...
while i do agree, some of the trades made at the deadline did more bad than good, trading away mcghee to think sanchez would be adequate enough to split time at first with jones, and going ahead to acquire rodriguez, were bad moves. i do like the acquisition of snider. the bullpen sucks now.
but i do see the pirates winning the series with la and getting the wild card, and winning the 1 day playoff against whomever with aj burnett on the mound and from there, who knows maybe hurdle can help this team get on that tear that his rockies did that one year.

Because the Pirates can hit a pitcher of Billingsley's numbers THIS year. It's not one year ago. -- but to bust this trend, Billingsley IS red hot at the moment.
I can see both sides of the argument regarding the Pirates collapse. But most of those promoting a collapse focus on the loss of Brad Lincoln -- I dont think this was a major loss. Gaby needs to step his shit up or hit the bench, but lets not forget Snider's rocket homer to right center a couple of days ago. If he can contribute, in addition to the continued development of Starling Marte who has HUGE upsides, and the occasional HR riddled hit-streaks that Pedro, Jones, and McKenry (who needs to play more) that all of them go on, we can have some batlling power.
The pitchers anchored this solid record, and they are declining. --But the bullpen will find its legs, McDonald has huge potential (an entire half season of greatness). That said, I'll be the first to admit he has been TERIBLE for now MANY consecutive starts. However, his velocity is fine, and IMO a lot of it comes down to first pitch strikes. If any time in the next few starts he feels good, gets back to punping strikes early in the count and TRUSTING his pitches instead of FEARING the hitters he will be right back. He's rattled, but rattled is temporary. It is mental, not physcial.
Wandy is another that is catching more flak than he deserves, just bc Pirates fans only know what they have seen in a Pirates jersey, and his stuff doesn't exactly blow you away. It is the subtlties of his pitching that have allowed to have the long impressive career that he has had. His control is excellent and is a stable veteran, he will perform just fine. Am I saying he's going to have double digits Ks and CG SHO's ? Ofcourse not, in fact I'll guarantee he doesn't do either! But he is not a risk on the mound.
The are patches of inperfection in most teams that make the playoffs. There will a few more bad starts from our staff than earlier, and the bullpen needs to (and IMO will) develop back into their routines, and the bats are NOTHING to be worried about. The biggest worry of mine is Gaby, and people need to pipe down about barmes' avg,,, the guy is a solid defensive short stop, bats 8th nearly every game (avg killer), but consistently comes through in the clutch and stings the ball more than you would expect, he has more RBI than a .200 hitting dedicated 8-spot shortstop would be expected to.
Will we crash? It could happen. But I think we will dip, and recover, and will still have a grind but a real shot at playoffs.

And if you don't respect my input, I typed it all on an iphone, I know you can at least respect that. ? see cashaholic's thread for my input on tonight's game.
Cliffnotes: The dodgers score 4+ tonight. The pirates are hard to put a number on tonight.

Im honestly not comparing the downward spiral of this to years past.
Ive just noticed a change in pitching quality and hitting. Mccutchen has basically been non existant. the pirates ERA is steadily climbing upward. Hitting overall is going downward.
They will win a average of 1 out of 3 from this point onward. Please do not attempt to wager on them everyday like in the past....as all of ur profit made on them will vanish.

i completely agree with barmes being decent, despite his batting avg....he does come through in the clutch and has decent amt of rbis, and also plays superb defense, hes saved alot of hits and runs by his defense.
