If he never had injury problems to the extent that he did, imagine what his numbers could have ended up being. Then he may have been unanimous but I think until the old crop of writers die off, some will still refuse to put someone into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

I got to watch Jr. from day 1 of his career, including attending all 3 of the 1995 playoff games vs the Yankees in Seattle. Although Edgar Martinez (who should also be in the HOF) stole the show in that series, Griffey quietly hit .391 with 5 HR's & a 1.488 OPS in the series.
It was a pleasure to get to watch him for so many years..........sad day when he left for Cincy.............congrats Junior.

The 100% barrier has stood for a long, long time, because even Ruth did not get 100%, which he SHOULD have, and the barrier would not exist if he had. The real shame is that IF he had, there would have been many more since and almost all would be worthy. In a just world everyone on the Team Of The Century would have been on 100% of the ballots his first year of eligibility. What will happen now is that someone will eventually get all the votes and his fans will hail him as "The greatest player of all time" which will also be nonsense, but part of the world we live in. I congratulate Junior and Piazza as well, both deserving.

I agree on the "exclusive club" thing and with that said...

The way I judge the Hall of Fame is that, if you've seen them play throughout their career and have to think for a second whether they should be a Hall of Famer or not then I say they shouldn't. You shouldn't have to look up their stats to consider it.

Griffey never juiced and was by far the greatest and most prolific player of this generation hands down.  His offense, power and defense have been unmatched. Unfortunate he had those injuries he might have had a legitimate shot at the HR record
