I think that the new rules took a lot of tools out of the hands of pitchers. One of the biggest assets they always possessed is they control the game. Nothing happens until the ball leaves their hand. Now with the timer, automatic ball, how many people they have to pitch to before getting pulled, etc, etc, etc the batter has more control so more runs. Also batters get paid for the long ball not putting the ball in play. So its a lot of all or nothing swings.

Agreed, the timer is playing a big role on these pitchers along with sticky stuff checkups. Well, it makes sense as MLB implemented the new rule to reduce game time, and support more runs along with extra large pizza box base plates to attract more viewers. I remember Redsox v Yankees games lasting 4+ hours at minimum. By the way, small ball is dead in the MLB. Onlly Asian countries, especially Japan and South Korea continue to apply team sacrifice for team victory mantra.

That’s not just this year. That’s been tolerated for the last few years all over the league. They have nobody to replace them. Hell, they had to ban the shift because these “Major Leaguers” are incapable of hitting the ball to the opposing field, something we knew how to do before we entered Pony League. Analytics have totally ruined this sport…All these guys do is strikeout with their launch angles.

If you think these batting averages are pathetic, wait until you check out these relief pitchers. MLB refers to their sport as “The Show”, when it should be labeled as “The $hit Show”…..

All sports have changed, the same goes with betting. How many of you guys are still doing the majority of your bets pre game? In play is where the money is these days.

@OneWayOut
100%. It's too bad really. There was more to the game when it was "simpler." It's not your Daddy's baseball anymore, the game I played growing up.
