I tried and tried to win at that sport but gave up weeks ago, bullpens closers relief pitchers usually screw up the game no lead is safe in baseball and anybody can beat anybody at any given time trends imo are worthless in this sport it's pretty much a coin toss, I still follow due to sportscenter but have swore off betting it because it was too hard to consistently win, after seeing another blown game( redsox) I'm just wondering why you still bet this sport? Too much inconstancy, or am I missing sum thing?

At the end of the day, even the shittiest teams (eg. Houston) will win approx 60 games a year. Stop betting high chalk and pick spots on underdogs and you'll likely do better... it may sound cliche but this is a marathon not a sprint so pick wisely and don't go all-in or chase losses. Then again I might just be on a high horse after Angels -1.5 miracle cover... GL

Straight bet, or small if win/parlay. Big parlay's(lots of games involved) are a luxury.  If you want to bet the SP(starting pitcher) only play the F5 innings. Odds are the starter will go 5 or if not you are absolutely f'ed anyway. Only reason a SP gets pulled before completing 5innings of work is he is getting absolutely rocked. If you want to bet on/against a good/weak pen play the whole game(exp. one of the team is coming off multiple extra inning series[tired bullpen due to recent overwork], or a team is just solid late game [Pitt, Atl, Col, etc] .) Play money lines seriously, and run lines only as a luxury(for whole games only). Opposite for F5, value too great for just winning after Sp's. Never bet a -180+ anything. Just some rules i play by, and have been fairing well this season. Best of luck to you, but do not give up just because you have not struck gold yet. It takes alot of sifting to strike it rich. Be selective, consistent, and only take others advice into counsel. Lot of good cappers here(PolarBear, Lil_swag_b, VegasVandal, HoldenRG,cjm2008 , whomever does "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly[sorry for neglecting credit where is due but you have an un-rememorable name{too many random letters and numbers}]) just to name a few whom's counsel i tend to take into account(there really are just a few, not that i dislike anyone else's plays, but the majority of the public can not be correct on a regular basis or we would all quit our day jobs). Always remember it is your bet to make, only pull the trigger when you feel confident, and follow your gut. Baseball is a streaky sport. Do these things and i think you certainly have a shot at being successful.

Also a word of the wise:
check injuries, BvP, andBv(RHP or LHP). Always list the pitchers you are either betting on/against. If pitcher is decent but irrelevant to your pick do not list as it will most likely only benefit you if this guy is scrubbed and you can keep your position on the line.Never bet a team with their best player out for the day. Baseball is alot of work but the most predictable of the sports in my opinion.

Farris, I understand your frustration, but to answer your original question.. This is the only sport outta the major sports that rides solo for weeks on end.  So as it stands now, we have no choice but to cap it as best we can.

Funny thing about baseball is, unless you have no idea what you're doing, you should never loose money.  Sure its difficult to profit, but generally baseball isn't the sport that drains your balance.  I'm not sure about 1st 5 in bets and I personally don't like them, but just find what works for you.  Try to pick a handful of teams and only bet on those teams that you choose to follow.  GL

Baseball is different from most sports in the fact that you can bet a team at the same line any night you should choose to do so. Betting favorites only heavy is a recipe for bankruptcy. Yes the straight odds are in their favor, but with juices included most wont add up to a net gain come season end. Following all teams is essential in my opinion to have an understanding when a play has value or not.

I wouldn't argue this if it were any of the other 3 sports, but what separates bases from the others is the fact that gamblers seem to focus heavily on starting pitching.  This takes away from the essence of following all teams, because pitchers decide the games for the most part.

What I'm saying is if you "limit" the teams you follow, it takes the pressure away from that focus on starting pitching that the "average bettor" generally depends on.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice but I've tried most of those things and still maybe I jus have bad luck but more often than not, either the whole team gets cold, pitcher sucks that day and gets rocked or bullpen screws up at the end, yeah i won here and there but still trying to cap it seems pointless at least to me cause all that time and info u spend can go out the window too easily with baseball and it makes it not fun just too many variables, maybe I was spoiled football and basketball cause more often than not its jus betting on who the better team is and if u follow it makes it pretty simple, jus crazy how football season many weekends I could make great money in jus a day but baseball if I win one game I'll probley lose the next one, hahaha jus not worth it to me even though its the only major sport going on right now and i still follow but jus not worth it to me to bet anymore, esp wit football right around the corner

LMAO. As far as the first 5 innings thing, I'll give my take. I only do it for totals, and here's why. First of all, there will be a lot of games, that instead of winning you will just tie. Most importantly, is the fact that good teams find a way to win, and bad teams find a way to lose. So for me, I would rather have the team for the entire game, because the good teams will find ways at the end! Just my take.

I understand your points, and agree with you for the most part. Baseball has much more variables than any other sport. I believe it is because the game is a team sport, but 95% of the game, it is just batter vs pitcher. Only funny thing is you make it seem like NBA is easy to handicap. I know in the NBA one team will be up 20 points and 2 quarters later, down by 20 lol. I do well in the NBA (over 60% in both regular and post season), but it's really comical because only the last 4 minutes matter in about 80% of the games lol. Good luck!

Yeah that's true gator in basketball most of the time it's really only the 2nd half that matters(made a killing off 1st qrt bets though) and ull have the occasional meltdown but nothing like having to worry about having the bp screw up a game in baseball haahaha no lead is ever safe even if a team is up 5+ runs I still had to sweat it out till the end cause most closers end up giving up a few hits or runs

to tell you the truth.baseball is the sport where the bookies lose the most.because all you have to do is pick the winner(easier said than done)no point spread in volved.my local bookie says he takes a loss on baseball season.b ut makes 10 times it back on football!

do better homework on your picks!!!

By reading what you've put, I think the biggest problem is that you really don't like baseball, and for that reason it's just not much fun betting on it. Am I correct on some level?
