I completely understand the premise of your thread. Just because a team has a great farm system or a good GM doesn't mean you'll have the best record. However.....

What the others are alluding to is that even with losing Westbrook after he got off to such a great start, they have arms to fill in. When a couple of bats go cold, they have depth to continue the assault. And that all comes from having such a well run organization that, from the top down, can keep on chugging through a long grind of a season, When comparing this team's talent to others, one can see that they are a difficult bunch to beat. When you add a manager that's respected, that means this can happen for a couple months. It can also continue for the entire season. Their veterans are not yet too old or costly. They'll produce just enough on a nightly basis.

Yes. It&#x27;s not about buying the inflated contracts of aging superstars. It&#x27;s about developing and keeping your own home grown talent, and wisely fitting in the missing pieces of the puzzle with a free agent or two at a reasonable rate of return. Look at Atlanta. They spent 75 million to sign BJ Upton even though all current Sabrmetric data indicated he was one of the most overvalued players over the past 5 years in Tampa. His reputation as a great defensive center fielder belied the fact that he was weaker than average at his position. And everyone in Tampa knew he was a piss poor situational hitter who could only pad his stats in meaningless at bats.
