I’m not a baseball savant by my stretch but how does the home plate ump see well enough to call balls n strikes?

The umpire is crouched down directly behind the catcher. A catcher who’s wearing shoulder pads, helmet style face mask, the catcher is clearly obstructing the line sight of the umpire who is also wearing a face mask.

This is truly mind blowing stuff. How accurate are the calls made by these umps? Are there imaginary lines he’s looking out for?

If you have a way to do it, get in there behind even a Little League catcher. Let a kid that can has FB, CB, change-up throw a few pitches. You won&#x2019;t believe the view. It will change your perspective.

It doesn&#x27;t matter if the umpires have a clear view of the pitches thrown to home plate. They will find a way to blow a call.

Calling Balls and Strikes is a judgment call based on what they see in real-time.   There will always be missed calls whenever there are human umpires or referees.  It is what it is.

Can you imagine if we went to an electronic strike zone and got rid of the umps? So many issues would be avoided.
