The guy has 41 homers and 115 rbi's. Not even a Yankee fan but a hell of a year for Curtis

Scoring 131 runs is pretty ridiculous as well

 

Granderson would probably get my vote...   Ellsbury is up there as well

verlander aint **** ...definitely not going to win MVP.  wins are nothing that he has earned...and this high total is fluky.  Not to mention he doesnt even have the best xFIP in the majors or even in the AL.

I have no problem giving a pitcher the MVP if they deserve it.  Verlander hasn't been the MVP this year.  It's still Bautista right now.

No credit for leading just about every category despite the fact that he doesn't get on base as much as the next guy?

I say give it to him BECAUSE he has all those RBIs, Runs and Homers with a low batting average. He does more with less.

Joey Bats gets another silver slugger but no MVP because his team is not in playoff contention sorry but that is how it works

Get out of the SABRmetrics and into reality. Not one player in either league has put his team on his back and carried them like Verlander. He was a winner when no one else could buy one. With Granderson you have an excellent player but if you add up his plate appearances and fielding opportunities they are in the same neighborhood as Verlander's batters faced + strike outs. Granderson is also surrounded by a hell of a lineup that creates some of his opportunities. Verlander stands alone each and every batter. Pitchers should most certainly be considered for MVP and it is not carved in stone that they can not be considered.

Might how the backwards writers would pick it, but the MVP should be Bautista this season.

Granderson has 41 home runs in 148 gams.  Bautista has 42 homeruns in 139 games.

Just because the Jays would still suck doesn't make him less valuable. That is just a stupid comment.

Anyone know their vorps at all? Im not really trying to murder my phone battery trying to find them but I would be really curious as to what they are.

I just look at it this way. If you removed each player from the team and replaced with an average player, where would the team be at? I still think the bombers make the playoffs. Clearly the Jays don't. I think the Tigers are in the middle of a division race without Verlander and probably aren't making it.

However I'm biased since I'm from Detroit.

Tigers are up 12.5 games.  Verlander hasn't been worth 13 wins this season.  Tigers still make it.

Here are the stats for the players in question. If you want to go the sabremetric route Bautista has the better VORP.

However, Verlander and Granderson will be in the playoffs.

Bautista has had a great season, but he has less than zero chance to win MVP and I'd gladly give you huge odds on it if there was a way.
