TEXAS RANGERS REASONING

The narrative for the rangers outweighs the Twins spot by a dozen and it has a lot to do with Jon Gray’s experience within this spot this season.

Early in the season, Jon Gray had a road outing against the Yankees in New York where he pitched 4 innings with 4 strike outs. He was on pitch count but if you ask me that’s a nice tiny performance against one of hottest teams in the league. The real thing that favors Jon Gray this game is that the very next game he pitched after the Yankees outing was against the Angels at home where he got rocked in the first inning, only to pick himself back up later in the game. He collected a total of 8 strikeouts and the rangers bats ended up coming alive to gain him his first home victory in Texas. 

Now, we look at Jon Gray’s last recent matchup. It was a Road outing at New York against the Mets. Jon Gray got tagged a bit for 4 runs but he also was able to obtain 7 strikeouts. Rangers bats were cold. Now what’s important is that Jon Gray is heading back to Texas from New York once again. A travel spot he was already in this season. A spot to where he recouped the next game at home. Tonight is extremely similar. This is a muscle memory for him. Gray is already a “Home-body” type of pitcher given the fact he’s spent a ton of years in Colorado where his mindset is programmed to have a edge at home.

If you look at Gray’s schedule, he has the clear cut battle tested schedule compared to Sonny Gray’s. A lot has to do with the fact that the Central division isn’t competitive compared to the west, but even Jon Gray has played 3 inter league matchups against both Phillies and Mets who have nice hitters in rotation.

Sonny Gray has looked much better than previous years. One thing that favors Sonny tonight is his experience playing in Texas. He has a record of 9-3 against the rangers. A lot has to do with the fact he played in Oakland in the beginning of his career. I wouldn’t speculate if this helps him because the rangers have a whole new field now and I’m not sure if the roof will be closed or not.

Either way, this is Sonny’s first quality road game of the season. In the past, he has faltered a ton in this spot. Reasons why I will take my chances with Jon Gray and the Rangers to bounce back at home after a sup par road trip. 

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES REASONING 

 
My Phillies are in emergency mode right now. Even with this type of lineup and pitching rotation, wins can still be obtained. I stated early in the week the Phillies will be in sharp spots throughout the time Harper is out. Tonight is an example. You get Wheeler in a spot where some may want to back Wainwright’s revenge. 

This pick has some “Philly homer love” in it since I’m a big Philly sports fan but I hunt for gambling spots like this tonight. All my picks are my picks. I don’t come on here to claim the best. I simply love to show picks and indulge in dialogue amongst others.
