I remember a while ago seeing somebody post their rules on how to bet MLB.
For example, never bet on a losing team on the road even if they are favored
- bet on home teams that have won 2 in a row
- fade teams on long road trips etc..
These probably arent the exact examples he used, but im looking for some ideas on how other people do it. Are there some stead fast rules you stick to??
Would appreciate any helps and posts, be an excellent introduction to a MLB rookie like me :)

Thanks mate, Its my first season of betting MLB and want some steadfast rules, love the idea of fading cold pitchers & riding hot pitchers. Does it matter if they are home or away? Also, what site do you use to get all your info? espn.com/mlb ? or are their others to look at previews / past results, game notes etc.

You have to ask what kind of bettor are you planning on being? Everyday? Spot? The style will dictate what advice should be followed. Take most of the advice you read with a grain of salt as you don't know if its a monkey with a keyboard or Albert Einstein. Rules I like to follow
Handicap the card backwards starting with the West Coast : Prevents uninformed tilt/chase because of early failure
Don't bet games with a backup catcher: Pitchers are creatures of habit and I don't mess with it.
And it does not matter how well someone has fared lifetime against a team, period.
There are a million more but there's a couple. Good luck.

Thanks Jfen, amazing read , will need to go over it a couple of times to digest it fully.
@fivespot, much like the NBA i would be a daily better. I normally only choose 1-2 games i like and multi (parlay) them along with other sports together. Its been a winning strategy for me in the sense i know on every daily sport card, there is 1 or 2 games that stand out for me. When im covering 4-5 sports, it becomes easier to create a 2-3 leg multi (parlay) that is of high quality.
so far, i have just been reading previews from covers/scoreboard and going with the overwhelming consensus pick from the experts.
However, this is not a strategy i want longterm as i actually need to understand why those picks are being made, what trends are being followed and formulate my own ideas.
it took me a full 2 years of betting NBA and almost 2+ years of betting in the AFL / Super rugby to start seeing a profit.
Major league baseball is a brand new sport for me, and while most would suggest not to bet on it, it is exactly the same way i got an interest in other sports, so im going into it head first and trying to gamble along the way :)
appreciate your tips, will include fading back up pitchers as a rule!
