I don't know who or what compiles the "games behind" totals in the MLB League Standings section of Covers, but there are very few instances where the numbers are actually correct. There are errors all over the page. Example: In the American League Central, KC leads with a record of 9 and 5. Cleveland is second at 8 and 7. .Cleveland is listed on Covers as being 1 game behind. That is incorrect. They are 1 1/2 games behind. Minnesota has a record of 6 and 8 and is listed as being 3 1/2 games behind KC. Incorrect again. They are 3 games behind. I could go on and on, but I don't have the time. To calculate games behind the leader let's use KC and Cleveland as an example. KC has a record of 9 wins, 5 losses. Cleveland is 8 and 7. Figure the difference in the win column, then figure the difference in the loss column. Add those together and divide by 2. That gives you the correct games behind. So in the example, in the win column, subtract Cleveland's 8 wins from KC 's 9 wins. 9-8 =1. In the loss coulumn, Cleveland has 2 more losses than KC. add 1+2=3. Now divide by 2. 3 divided by 2=1 1/2. So Cleveland is a game and a half behind KC.
Please, Covers, correct the mistakes!
