Everyone automatically points out Adam Wainwright and how dominating he has been. And the fact is, he has. But what people also fail to take into account is how good Gerrit Cole has looked in his past 5 games, giving up only a total of 5 runs over 5 games. People are hesitant to back a rookie in the playoffs, but this kid is the real deal. Pirates at +145 in a win-or-go-home game 5 of a playoff series is too good value to pass up.
The Cards smoked the Pirates 9-1 with Wainwright on the mound, but the Pirates also had a pitcher who had an epic meltdown... and you can't really expect much from Burnett. Cole stepped up the next game and handed the Cards a 7-1 loss. This game is going to be close. I'll take the Pirates with the value +145, knowing that the Pirates have a lineup that has proven that they can bang HR's at any given point of the lineup, and this is the first time they've tasted the playoffs in decades... they won't go home easy.

Coles is a rookie and he's pitching in st Louis he"ll be nervous and choke
this type of opinion pisses me off. do u realize that cole has already pitched in st. louis in game 2? and completely shut down st. louis? so much for a nervous rookie.
with that said.. hoping st. louis second time go around will fair better.

Cole is a professional and was widely considered the top pitching prospect in baseball prior to this season. Cole was groomed for this. The choke angle is garbage. Wainright will deal too. Great stuff.

Game two is not game five though. How many times have we seen a good pitcher do bad early on and come alive late (Schilling vs. Yankees) or other way around where Verlander's had a dominant game and been not as good in a later game. It happens often. There's just no way imo that Cole will pitch as good as he did in the first game. He might not be nervous or whatever, but I'm fairly confident he will give up more than one run this time around and in a game like this, honestly I think all the Cards need is 3 to win.
