Javier Baez is starting for the Cubs at shortstop in the place of Addison Russell who had a hamstring injury yesterday. Baez spent most of the year in the minors because he has no plate discipline, he is too free a swinger and major league pitchers know this and get him too swing at balls. He can hit the ball a mile but at this point this 22 year old can be had by crafty major league pitchers, which is all he going to see today in this key playoff game.

How many at bats will Baez get? He is batting ninth in the line up, important to consider in this bet because he will not have as many at bats. Also Madden will likely pinch hit for him later in the game if Cubs are losing. Baez is supposed to be a good defensive infielder but he sure wasn't yesterday, he made one error and fumbled another ground ball. If need be La Stella can play 2nd and Castro move over to shortstop. Russell says he can play but who knows, teams are rarely honest with the extent of injuries. If Baez gets only a couple of at bats this is a great bet, and even if he plays all game I still like it at these odds.
