I see this way too often on this forum and with inexperienced sports bettors everywhere.
Volume. will. kill. you.
You do not need to be making 3,5,7+ bets every day.
You do not need to be successful at every sport.
You do not need to make this a 24/7/365 grind fest.
You do not need to bet every 25-50% SGP boost or odds boost promo they try to lure you in with
You certainly do not need to bet parlays.
Specialize in ONE sport and consume as much knowledge as you possibly can on that sport. Even more specialize on ONE team in ONE sport. Know everything.
It took me 5 years of winning at NFL and 5 years of losing at everything else to realize this. I finally had the maturity to pull my gains from NFL season and scale back my NBA, NHL, MLB, and NCAAB betting because truthfully I should not be wagering the same amount on those sports as I do on my #1 sport. Betting should be fun and entertainment. Your mojo and feng shui need to be right. You need to be in the correct mental space that your method of selecting plays and using proper bankroll management eliminates any concerns of short lived bad beats or bad runs.

Good advice, mostly for the beginner. I tell people to stay away from parlays too, but I do occasionally play them, occasionally being the key word and small amounts. I actually hit a 9 team college football parlay last year and ALL my friends knew it but I tell them it was just luck, and it was, ML favs' too, nothing crazy. It takes experience to understand these tips for most, you learn from your mistakes!

Gamblers lack patience and discipline a lot of the time. You have to pick your spots and not bet too many games I agree. 2 to 3 team parlays can be good sometimes, the 8 team parlays and such seem like a waste because they hardly if ever hit. It is hard enough to pick one winner let along 7 or 8 winners.

I'm a gambleholic. I bet on everything. Golf, tennis, horses, whatever is available at the time I'm looking. I'm always looking. I've checked scores on my phone whether at movies or at concerts. Living in Las Vegas, I can't walk through a casino without stopping and playing several machines on the way to where I'm going. And if I get down, I hit the tables to get it back. Not to sweat, I'll get it back in baseball. I'll get it back tomorrow it happens. Been playing with house money since my tax return. Got a fat wad of bills in a box underneath my bed if my mobile account dips. Use to cap baseball games for hours, now I've got it down to minutes. I do try my hardest. That's my lifestyle. I love it.

Same game parlays are such a waste. I realize that if you like the over, it makes it more likely that a bunch of props will go over, but the payout is adjusted accordingly.
For example, if you pick two -110 picks, a parlay is typically suppose to pay 2.6 to 1. But if two picks are for the same game, even if they have opposite correlation, the payout is less than that. That's why I never do them, regardless of the rebates they offer you.
I disagree about about limiting sports, as long as it works for you. I discovered a few years ago that baseball ended up being one of my better sports, despite me not having much interest in watching it. I know a little bit, but I just use the numbers and the lines to figure out who I want to pick. I watch and follow the NFL the most, but it has turned out to be my 3rd or 4th best sport.
One thing I tell everyone is DO NOT BET ON SOCCER. The beauty of typical betting is that it's a 50/50 proposition. With soccer there is a third outcome (the draw). In my opinion that drastically decreases your odds of having success. Unless you can get close to pickem odds on a goal line (-1.5/+1.5), avoid it altogether. Most books don't office goal lines because soccer is probably very profitable to them. The only book I had the offered goal lines was 5 dimes who stopped serving US customers several years ago.

Most reputable books offer Asian goal lines on soccer to take the draw out of the equation. You can actually get some soft lines on soccer in the lesser known leagues that aren't as popular.
