So with sports betting now being legal, is anyone else wondering how these lines are going to be affected when you have say 30 million people all using 1 book...William Hill for example.
Kluber was -320 ML a few days ago. Is it hard to believe that with this many people or more betting on MLB that, that line could potentially be as high as -450? ?????? by first pitch.
Lines are going to start to move very fast I think once you have 30+ states all betting with X amount of books...

Yep I totally agree about this favoring the betters that read the lines instead of betting what looks good. I am still waiting to see how they will set up the lines but you know the favorites will be favored even more. I think football will be the biggest difference.

Lines will never be -450......Most bettors rather risk a little to win a lot than a lot to win little. Hence most bettors love the dogs.

Dave, you couldn't be farther from the truth. Earlier this year when Kershaw was pitching against the Marlins he was -380 and by first pitch he was -400 and that's just off of Nevada lines.
So if you have 30+ states all betting MLB yes you very well could see a -450 ML in baseball. That's my point of this thread,if you have say 30 million people all betting MB with only a few books, those lines are going to move A LOT.
Most newbie bettors will see the -300 and automatically think "its -300 he has to win" now lets say you have just 1 MILLION people nation wide and each person puts $20 on that -300. What's $20*1 million? That line is going to move.

Just because gambling is legal now it does not mean more people will start gambling...Will your brother or Sister or Anuty or Uncle who does not gamble suddenly start to gamble because its legal? No...if they wanted to gamble on sports they would be already illegally. Us degenerates are the ones they are targeting that are gambling illegally. Now make it legal so states get a tax cut instead of all profits going illegally to offshore.

I don't have scientific numbers to back this up but I've found this not to be the case. I'm always seeing people teasing -7 football favorites down to -1 and not often the other way around. Same with people parlaying all of the #1 and #2 seeds in march madness, etc.
I enjoy dog betting though, so count me as a data point in your favor.

Dave, you're missing the point. You're auntie, uncle, grandma, grampa, etc etc don't want to bet because it is illegal. Now if you make something legal and as harmless as sports betting.
Most people will say screw it, I'll put down a few dollars on the Patriots, just so that they can have some action on the game and make it that much more enjoyable for them to watch.
NOW let's say you have 1 million people all thinking like this, its only a few dollars who cares. Once again they are only doing it for ENTERTAINMENT. What is going to happen to that line???????
Plus other people are agreeing with what I'm saying. Most newbie bettors don't know what an upset is.

Exactly, if its available down the street like in the UK I think it will gain a lot of business with new bettors. My dad isn't going to deal with Bitcoin, Western Union, or making shady credit card deposits that are processed in Caribbean/Asian countries, and frankly he'd balk at the exorbitant withdrawal fee situation that most online gamblers are used to now. But if he could buy a ticket in a strip mall/kiosk and cash it for US dollars right after the game with no fees, I'm sure he'd throw down.
I know many marijuana users in Colorado who are totally down with recreational use now but were not going to risk their white collar jobs or talking to shady dealers. But now they walk into a dispensary that's no different than a liquor store and life goes on. I don't see how gambling would be any different.
