....because of Rogers (the owners). Take it from me. I know a lot of people in the sports world. Hell it's my job. (I edit sports clips, AND FOR THE LAST TIME, yes i am a girl)
Before the Jays even played one game, the idiot owners (Rogers) pretty much declared them the world series champs. There was relentless new ads, comparisons to the 1993 team, lots of talk.
They showed all the highlights of the old world series champs, had the sports stations (owned by Rogers) pumping all the tires of the pitching staff, etc...and the worst part, on opening day, the big stupid long ceremony of introducing all the players, and showing the highlights of the old world series team winning, etc.. you should have seen the look on the faces of their opponents that day, the Indians, they were like "wtf, we gonna show them". Jays lost.
What they did (Rogers) is they DROVE the WILL out of these players. When you think you ALREADY WON the world series it messes with your desire to win.
After a losing month, they will begin to see hey we actually have to work. We have to double batting practice time. No more "showing the new boys" around town on game nights. Time to fight, and fight to win, not just expect 3 run homers in the 8th to bail them out.
So ride the storm, and in June+ this team will be money.
