kind of a Sydney Greenstreet marathon on Turner Classic Movies Tuesday December 17th. Sydney is one of my all time favorite "menacing villains" in films from the 1940's. worked quite often with Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Peter Lorre. I've got the old VCR ready because there are three of his films I have NEVER seen (all start times are pacific)
@ 3:00am / Across the Pacific (1942) WWII spy thriller with Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor
6:00pm / The Conspirators (1944} another spy thriller with Hedy Lamarrm, Paul Henreid and Peter Lorre (my first viewing)
10:00am / Passage to Marseille (1944) WWII war movie with Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains and Peter Lorre (my first viewing)
12:00pm / Background to Danger (1943) another WWII spy thriller with George Raft and Peter Lorre (my first viewing)
1:30pm / Casablanca (1942) does this classic REALLY need an introduction ??? Sydney in the small but interesting roll of Signor Ferrari featuring Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Ingrid Bergman, and Paul Henreid with the great German actor Conrad Veidt AND (of course) Peter Lorre
3:30pm / The Maltese Falcon (1941) this "film noir" classic was Sydney's film debut as the scheming Kasper Gutman for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. features Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and (once again) Peter Lorre
