one of the GREAT actors of the 20th century. first hit the scene as T.E. Lawrence "Lawrence of Arabia" in 1962 his first of 8 Oscar nominations. followed that up with "Becket" in 1964 where he played King Henry II to Richard Burton's Thomas Becket. both nominated for Best Actor but lost.
personal favorites of mine were "What's New Pussycat?" (1965) "The Night of the Generals" as General Tanz (1967), "My Favorite Year" (1982) as Alan Swann, which along with Pussycat?, was one of his few comedies and "The Last Emperor" (1987) as English advisor Reginald Johnston. he most recently appeared in "The Tudors" 2008 as Pope Paul III
I believe that he had received more Oscar nominations without winning than any other movie actor (which is a shame). R I P Peter

Rat, Caught me by surprised there. I was concentrating on movies watched and didn't see the Peter O'Toole announcement. RIP Sir.
Peter O'Toole wasn't ever a favorite of mine but "Lawrence" stands as special forever. Brilliant!!
There is a picture from 2008 named "Dean Spanley". I described this movie as as a acting tour de force by three actors with the great Peter O' Toole doing the best from long ago. I wrote something like that to my ex wife. Good movie chick.
Watch "Dean Spanley" if you have missed it. Probably playing soon on cable. GL, Doc
