Pinny has a line on this:  Will the same movie win best picture & best director oscars.  Yes-111   No-105

In the 81 years of academy awards the movie that wins best picture has also won best director 60 times out of the 81 years.  I will lay the -111

I think Kathy Bigelow - Director (The Hurt Locker) would be the strongest overall play. 

Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino said HE voted for her in when he was on Larry King a week ago.

also think Avatar probably wins best picture because the Hollywood establishment always seems to go for the big budget block busters that prink oodles of money (ie: Titanic 1998 even though many critics thought that LA Confidential was a better movie)

unfortunately Hollywood is all about    (see Titanic vs LA Confidential). I just hope that arrogant prick James Cameron doesn't win Best Director

Well technically they say that the $$$ taken in by a movie doesn't account for anything, however, people voting don't really think that way. But besides the money taken in by Avatar, the cinematography and special effects were amazing. Head and shoulders above any other movie this year. Avatar is truly a lock.

The people voting look at the movie as a whole, not money taken in or fancy effects.

FACT is a ton of people think the Avatar script was mediocre at best.

FACT is most critics feel Avatar is not deserving of the high public perception of the film.

FACT is sci-fi fils DO NOT do well at the Oscars.


So gfiner, before you go out and call somethin a "lock" get your facts straight. Avatar surely has a CHANCE, but I would be willing to bet you any amount you want at even money that Hurt Locker wins over Avatar. Choice is yours.
