everyone I know says its the most amazing, funny show, it has a 9.7 out of 10 rating on imdb.com etc.
watching the first season on netflix, its quirky and in some parts funny but not the hilarious groundbreaking experience I was led to believe or am i missing something?

You either get AD or you don't. When you "get it" you will realize the hype behind this show. I can honestly say that this is probably the single greatest written comedy of all time. It takes time but more importantly effort to get this show. There are so many subtle jokes, hidden jokes, foreshadowing jokes, and running jokes that you need to both really pay attention and also re-watch it to find some jokes you missed in the first viewing. I guarantee you could watch each episode 20 times and you would still miss jokes. That's how packed this show is with humor.
I watch this show almost every single day (including right now). It's basically the only show you can do that with. Every other show gets boring after multiple viewings in a short time but since there are so many missed jokes when you watch an episode of AD you can watch the same episode over and over and its almost like watching a different episode each time.
I truly feel sorry for people that haven't given it a chance or just didn't "get it." The hype is there for a reason. It's flat out brilliant.

you need to stick with it because like jp and steve said, it is one of the greatest shows ever created. all the characters fit so well together that it makes for some of greatest lines ever. just wait until buster gets a new "brother". classic stuff

I don't think any show is even close to Seinfeld in my opinion but everything else you said is spot on
curb your enthusiasm is a much better show than seinfeld.... seinfeld is very simplistic humor dont give that if you look beyond what theyre saying and dig deep crap. and also CYE was created by larry david the co creator of seinfeld.....

The 1st clip is from the the very 1st season and involves the dad. The 2nd clip was a play on the 1st clip but it didn't come until 2 years later in season 3 and now involves the mom. The 3rd clip came a couple episodes after the 2nd clip, its a play on the 1st 2 clips, and now it involves michael's girlfriend. Michael had just found out she was mentally retarded which is why she butchers the phrase.
#1 You probably won't find the 3rd clip funny at all unless you saw and remembered the 1st 2 clips
#2 The 2nd clip might give you a laugh but to have its full effect you need to have seen and remembered the 1st clip which came 2 years prior
This is just a small example of the many types of humor this show has. That's why its near impossible to get the hype of this show on the 1st viewing of the series or if you just happen to jump into any random episode. Steve Holt is absoltely right, on all fronts. I marvel at how clever and how well written the show is. Way too smart for Americans, which is why it only lasted three years, and damn near only lasted one. I was so upset when it was cancelled that I had to see an analrapist.

yes u are, rewatch them... its fucken genious and its hilarious but some things may go right past u cause its a funny show that is actually very clever.
