Imagine the sheer excitement of opening the newspaper and seeing a film that the critic gave 3 stars and an outstanding review who has three actresses who have either been nominated or won Academy awards:
Jessica Lange, Academy award for Best Actress in the movie FRANCES. And her hot performance in the movie SWEET DREAMS in which she portrayed the life of Patsy Cline.
Kathy Bates, Acadeny award Best Actress in the movie MISERY.
Joan Allen, nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the movie NIXON and nominated for Best Actress in the movie THE CONTENDER and she was great in the movie BOURNE IDENTITY and BOURNE SUPREMACY.
The movie BONNEVILLE had all these elements so ofcourse I had to rush off to the theater to see the film (especially since it is a limited release). Let me just say that the reason I post in this forum is because I want know what regular people (those of us who are not paid to review movies) think about the film because I hope that if a film is a dud I'll be save the price of admission and the loss of precious time.......Well you can all thank me because my review will save you your time and money......Stay away from this peice of garbage. Jessica Lange plays a woman who's husband has pasted away and his daughter who is in her mid 40s is to inherit the house and wants to bury her father's remains in Santa Barbara, Ca as his will states but that will was written before Jessica Lange's character married him and she knows that he had another will written after they were married but can't find it...they have been married for over 20 years and the attorney who drew up the will is in a nursing home with dementia...his legal records were destroyed in a flood 2 years earlier. Lange's step-daughter tells her she will let Lang's character keep the house if she allows his ashes to be buried in Santa Barbara. She agrees and is to deliver the ashes a week later in Santa Barbara so she has two of her friends (Kathy Bates and Joan Allen) accompany her on the trip. She decides to drive her husband's car, a bonneville, on the trip. Lange's character is torn by the choice of following her husband's wishes of having his ashes spread around and losing her house or to deliver the ashes to Santa Barbara.
The situations during the trip are unbelievable and the dialogue is stale, uninteresting and unbelievable as well as absolutely not entertaining. It kind of reminds me of the empty trash you see in a movie made for the Lifetime Channel. The only redeming quality is that Kathy Bates does not appear nake in this one like she did in the movie ABOUT SCHIMDT. I am still psychologically distrubed from that visual. Away the movie sucks so stay away.
