I am not sure how she has suddenly become so overlooked. After its initial release there was strong buzz about Jolie getting an Oscar. I actually only saw half the movie last night due to a scratched DVD but from what I saw she was awesome. People on film shows are often lamenting how weak the best actress categorey is this year yet here Jolie is giving what to me is a historic performance.
I have not seen The Reader but have a very, very hard time imagining that Winslett tops Jolie's work as the distraught mother in Changeling, and have read almost universal hatred for the movie itself.
I take it Winslett has cleaned up all the major awards preceding this one? Then I guess she will win. I'll have to watch her performance sometime just to see if my belief that the best she could do is match Jolie (would take so much) holds true. Angelina Jolie won for her role in Girl, Interrupted years ago and her work in this film to me is light years ahead of that previous performance. To me +1500 represents great value.
If any +1500 pick ever hits in the history of Oscar...
Just would really like some input on the other performances, opinions on her work, what factors you think work against her in terms of prior awards, image, promotion etc.

Jolie gave the best performance out of all the nominees imo,she has already won a oscar though so they will more then likely give it to someone who has never won one before(winslet or hathaway)

Yes but she only won for Best Supporting Actress, not Best Actress. And if the Academy overlooks people for prior wins how did Streep rack up all those statues?

She didn't show up for the Oscar luncheon so that kind of tell you that even she don't think she'll win. The Academy is a political "machine" so they give out awards to those who appreciates it and campaign for it. For whatever reason, they didn't like Spielberg early on so they pretty much shut him out 'til Schindler's List. Color Purple was winless even though it had 11 nominations!!! He's in good grace w/ them now.
Haven't seen the movie but this is who will win, not who should win.

Don't think much of a chance on Angie winning...
