While watching recorded shows ONLY they sputter and sometimes pause by themselves for a few seconds.
I reset the box last week which helped for about one day before it started again.
This is quite annoying.
I have an old Tivo box on one TV and it works fine but the one that goes on the fritz is a HR21/700 HD DVR (black box) on my main TV.
I will be giving them a call but was wondering if anyone else has been having the same problems with them. It will give me more firepower when I call them.
Thanks

I went thru two Direc HR-24 HD DVR units when I switched over from Dish-TV (I have since switched back because Direc's tech SUCKS compared to Dish) and BOTH were "skippy's" with bad hard drives (their tech's here in Las Vegas said they are having ALL kinds of problems with the HR-24 models)
they replaced those with a HR21-700 (which you say your having problems with) and it worked fine BUT I would suspect you have one with a bad hard drive.

i love directv. never had those tivo boxes yet so i can't comment.. their customer service seems to be second to none though. call and they will most likely make it right

i assume is just the old boxes you have. call up directv and say that if they don't send you a new box you will cancel your service. you will get the new box and probably get a couple months discounted as well. works every time

Direc-TV sports programming is the BEST in the industry BUT having had BOTH Direc AND Dish I can say that Direc's tech is NOT as good as Dish.
for starters, has NO internal P-I-P capable HD DVR receivers (when asked WHY, they say either "well, we have double play" or "Oh, we're working on that").
second, IF you want to change screen format for a standard def program, it's SIX STEPS with Direc. you have to go all the way back to the setup-HDTV page and change. with Dish that's one button on the remote.
third, with Direc if you are recording the same program, like a daily news show, over a number of days or say monday thru friday, Direc gives you two choices. record once OR record EVERY TIME that show is ON. you have to then go into the "manage recordings" page an MANUALLY REMOVE all the repeats you don't want recorded. Dish has a matrix for record once, record all, once a week, monday thru friday, ect that takes care of that. PAIN in the ASS.
I will stick with Dish mostly because of their HD DVR box's internal P-I-P BUT also because I just find it an overall better (and more simple) system to use.

This thing is really doing some strange sh!t lately... too hard to explain.
I gotta get around to calling them. I'll most likely remember when paying my bill for this crapping box. That'll get me going good. ha,ha,ha.
LRR... Been with DirecTV since way back when mid-90's... I to invested to swap out right now unless FORCED to do so. I'll let you know what happens... eventually. Thanks

will say one thing for Direc, at least here in Las Vegas. when I had problems with the first HR24 HD DVR "skipping" after the initial install, they sent a tech to swap it out the next day and when THAT one also malfunctioned, they swaped with an HR21-700 two days later and it worked fine.
IF your NOT still under any long term contact and their "taking their time" sending a tech, the "magic word" to get them off their ass is "Dish-TV"
