My top 5 out of 28 Godzilla movies. #5, Godzilla 2000, Toho had to come strong with a follow-up to the Matthew Broderick debacle, and this didn't dissapoint. The debut of Big G's plasma breath, combined with classic battle with Orga are worth the 2 hours. #4, The crown jewel of the 7 movie "Hensei Series", (1984-1995) is Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. This time, the U.N. builds the mechanical villan, and it actually succeeds in killing Godzilla! But, in a touching scene for the ages, it's a heavily wounded Rodan, who swoopes in and imparts his life and karma into a re'energized Godzilla from the dead. I won't ruin the ending, but you can only imagine. #3, Destroy all Monsters, enough said. #2, Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster. Not critically acclaimed, but nevertheless, a huge impact on my youth. Hedorah is the symbol of pollution, and the perseverance Godzilla goes thru to defeat this thing is truly admirable. Life lessons, like, get up!, when knocked down, and recycle your plastics, paper, and glass, are messages that impact me to this day. #1, Godzilla: Final Wars. The last installment of 28 movies is an all-out orgy of monsters. All the friends & foes make appearances. Including a butt'kickin' of the Toho's Godzilla over the Americanized version of Godzilla. Keep the faith, this was supposed to be the final movie, but hopefully Toho takes a few years off and brings back the global icon.
