HBO's "The Wire"

Question

Does the HBO show &#x201C;The Wire&#x201D; get any better after the first half of the first season?  I&#x2019;m currently halfway through the first season and I am finding that I have to force myself to watch the episodes.  I find it boring and I don&#x2019;t give a shit about any of the characters.  Does it get any better?&#xD;&#xA;Other HBO/Showtime shows pulled me in after one episode (The Sopranos, OZ, Dexter, etc.), but The Wire is boring me out of my mind and I heard that it was very good.

You will change your mind of it sucking once you get to the 3rd season.

Right now you are in season one which focuses on the street level. They need to build a foundation for wehre they are taking the show. Season 2 deals with docks/union and how drugs are brought in. Each season focuses on a different aspect.

I enjoyed the first season, found it to be entertaining once it picked up. Then when the second season came around I found myself losing interest and when the season ended I decided I was done watching the show. Everybody was telling me how great the third season was so I started watching the fourth season and again I thought it was good. I have been telling myself I am going to go back and watch from the third season on but have not found the time. All in all I would say it is a good show, could move a little slow at times though.

It is a series you have to watch from the beginning, that is season 1, to fully understand all the characters and the city itself.It is so much more than just another cop show.It has it's critics for being boring and too drawn out but the writing,the acting and the directing is some of the best and most realistic television ever made.

I think seasons 2 and 3 are the best.Season 2 really looks at the decline of the Baltimore docks, whilst season 3 gives a very good account of how the political system operates in the city.

Some of the acting is superb and a lot of the characters are actually cameos in a way.Felicia Snoop Pearson actually served time for manslaughter, whilst the guy who plays the Deacon,Melvin Williams,was a real life drug kingpin in the 70s and 80s who was in prison for over 15 years.

It may take you time to get into but trust me, buy the Boxset of the entire series as it is a modern day classic.

I recall going through something similar.  It&#x27;s a funny show, in that there is all sorts of great acting, but the lead (or at least the guy who seems like the lead for most of the first season) is terrible.  His black buddy isn&#x27;t much better.  But, it really finds it&#x27;s stride toward the end of Season One and just zips through the next two.  Warning, you have to be able to speak Hood to follow along.   As a susburban, white person, I found this challenging.  My friends in England get it with subtitles, so perhaps you can get one of those.

I loved every season, 1st one was great.. 3rd and 4th were my favoritesI found myself really falling in love with a lot of the characters, there&#x27; so many different types of people on the show

Not 100% but I&#x27;m pretty sure the 2 main producers of this series consist of a former crime reporter with the Baltimore Sun and former Baltimore detective of 20 years plus on the job. Probably has something to do with why the show was so fucking cool and successful.
