i know this movie is old news by now, but Iron Man 2 was a major disappointment. Don Cheedle, a terrific actor, was horribly cast. Johanson's character never made any sense. And Mickey Rourke builds up all this great stuff, only to lose most of his character in the second half of the film.
What a letdown.

the scene where Don Cheedle's character gets in his own suit and chases Iron Man around, culminating in a ridiculous fight that sets up the weapon they'll use in the finale - that scene was when Iron Man actually became bad. TOO CUTE! The first movie was not cute. Different director = different results

Same director for both films Anent (Jon Favreau - he plays Tony Starks' driver in the movies).
The difference for me was this: "Iron Man" was setting up the franchise, but it had to be able to stand alone, otherwise there would be no franchise. "Iron Man 2" was more concerned with setting up "Iron Man 3" and, more importantly, "The Avengers" (that should be a kick ass movie though).

It was less about "Iron Man 2" and more about "The Avengers".
Bingo. The end of the Hulk remake was the first lead in, and the end of this Iron Man #2 with Nick fury (Sam Jackson).....The next lead into the Avengers blockbuster will probably be during that last third part of the upcoming "Thor" movie.......I'm not going to explain the storyline, and they aren't trying too hard to stay on proper track, but enough of it to see it coming......
Example.....Pepper was just a bimbo that answered the phone and she ended up marrying Stark's chauffeur Happy Hogan....(He was the guy that beat up one dude while the Russian chick Natasha Romanoff beat up about 20 dudes......The Russian chick turns into "The Black Widow" thus that outfit she was wearing, and she was/is one of the Avengers in the loose storyline they are clumsily following..
Cheadle's character actually is closest to being on target with anything......Rhodey was a colonel and Starks best friend, but only took over as Iron Man when Tony Stark had an alcohol addiction.....
If they fuck up thye Thor movie, and I don't think they will, I'll be pissed. I liked the Hulk remake with Ed Norton.....The Iron Man's are just a little cheesy....Rourke's "villain" in the comic books was not even a major villain anyway.....
Hugh is spot on about the set up happening for the Avengers.....

Kinda difficult when all these storylines started in the early 60s.
Iron Man was actually captured by the "Red Chinese".....enemies back then were always "commies"......This time it was Al Queda.....Fairly same theme getting it started. He never goes public with his identity, like in Iron Man #2, which I thought was kiss of death for the second movie...
It killed a lot more they could have done with the storyline.
When he flew in wearing his Iron Man suit into that convention at the beginning, I thought I was watching Apollo Creed dancing as he was being lowered down to the boxing ring to fight a russian with James Brown singing like in Rocky #3. It just got way too cheesy..........As soon as everyone knows who he is, now what? all you can write a story about are takeovers by jealous competitors (they already did it once and did it again in #2).....
Whoever posted above about Rourke, I agree that they certainly could have used Rourke's acting talent as a bad guy a lot better.....
Hufgh is right, and Marvel's studios and where they are taking this thing, won't be interesting until "Thor" comes out. There can't be an Iron Man #3, unless that's when Thor and Iron Man, along with Sam Jackson's govt agency SHIELD put the Avengers together to go wrangle up "The Hulk" who will be busting shiot up somewhere out of control.....
