WAY too many repeats though.
I enjoy the old military history shows like "The World at War" (WWII narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier), "The First World War" and "Wings Over Vietnam" BUT your correct on the repeats.
still I find it to be a channel to go to when there is "nothing worth watching" on. at least it's "educational"

one old series about WWII I wish The Military Channel would pick up is "The Unknown War" which was produced with Soviet co-operation and released in 1978. VERY well done history of "The Great Patriotic War" narrated by Burt Lancaster. remember watching it years ago on PBS and it's excellent. at the time (the cold war) there was little info on history of the fighting on "the eastern front"
they should also pick up "Victory At Sea". that old classic is STILL one of the best documentary's about WWII in the Pacific and worth watching just for Richard Roger's music

I use to watch "The World at War" with my parents in the 70's. They lived through it, being born in the Ukraine. I listened to everything they told me and have never forgotten. Back then many families, in my neighborhood in Philly, were started by immigrants from Europe that had survived WW2.
One neighbor, an older Jewish guy, was taken away by ambulance one night and when he returned his left leg was gone. I was friend with the kids who told me that he had some grenade fragments from the war that had still been in his leg and other complications also so they had to amputate. This was 30 yrs after the war. He also had the tattoo from the death camps on his arm.
As a teen I went to see an exhibition of items made by Nazi's from the remains of people. Soap from human fat, lampshade made from human skin, etc. There was also death camp art and letter and other actual items at this exhibition that was displayed at a synagogus in Philly.
I use to talk to many old timers about those days. I had one teacher who fought at many battles in Europe and obviously survived. I use to give him a hard time before I found out he was a Vet... then we became close and I defended him. He was hard to like as a teacher but I learned why and made other understand as well.
You can clearly tell the difference from a person who is just telling stories and those who lived through the tough times.
The shows on the Military channel that have actual vets telling their stories are my favorites. It is compelling to hear the blood and guts reality of combat and war in general.
Having known so many that had been through WW2, and wanting to thank all the Vets for helping my family eventually survive and make it to the USA where I was born, was the main reason I joined the US Army and served as long as I did.
When I get some time I'll post a list of shows on the Military Channel and waht I think of them. If I have More time, I'll check the listings and post some good upcoming shows.
Also, they now play some war movies at times and I have caught some real gems that I had never heard of before.
That's all for now and remember...
