didn't want anyone to think "Papa Ratte" had "passed on" so figured I better start the December thread
Little Nicky (2000) "stupid" comedy about which of Satan's (Harvey Keitel) three sons, Nicky (Adam Sandler), Adrian (Rhys Ifans) and Cassius (Tiny" Lister Jr) is going to replace him when he retires as Satan did his father Grandpa Lucifer (Rodney Dangerfield in one of his last movie rolls) 10 thousand years earlier. cameos by Jon Lovitz, Dana Carvey, Regis Philbin, Bill Walton, Dan Marino, Henry Winkler and Ozzy Osbourne.
critics threw rocks with only a 22% "fresh" from Rotten Tomatoes AND it got "Golden Raspberry" nominations in all their major awards BUT lost all to John Travolta's Battlefield Earth. I thought it had a LOT of really funny site gags and lines and even thought it's a lame plot, I laughed almost constantly., plays again on Starz-Edge Wednesday Dec 3rd @ 11:25 pm and Thursday Dec 4th @ 6:00pm. rate it of four
also watched two classics back to back on HD Net Movies channel.
The African Queen (1951) stars Humphrey Bogart (received his only Best Actor Oscar) and Katharine Hepburn with Robert Morley, Peter Bull and Theodore Bikel. was a real 'tour de force" for both Bogart and Hepburn and has a rare 100% "fresh" rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
The Defiant Ones (1958) stars Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier as two escaped prisoners shackled together and who must co-operate in order to survive. supporting cast of Theodore Bikel, Charles McGraw, Lon Chaney, Jr, Claude Akins, Kevin Coughlin as the boy Billy and Cara Williams as his mother. yet another "tour de force" this time for Curtis and Portier early in their careers. both were nominated for the Best Actor Oscar as was Bikel for Best Supporting Actor and Cara Williams for Best Supporting Actress.
BOTH well worth watching iF you like the "classics" and hopefully will play again soon on HD Net Movie channel OR Turner Classic Movies. rate both of four

The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000) well acted golf based drama staring Will Smith, Matt Damon and Charlize Theron but J. Michael Moncrief as young Hardy Greaves steals the show. Jack Lemmon as old Hardy Greaves in his last movie roll before his death in 2001 is also the narrator. well worth watching for golf fans or those that just like a well acted drama. played on HD Net Movie and hopefully will be on again soon. rate it of four
Love Ranch (2010) another well acted drama based on the lives of Mustang Ranch brothel owners Joe and Sally Conforte and their relationship with Argentine boxer Oscar Bonavena. just like in the movie Casino the names of the true characters are changed but the facts of the story are pretty much the same. stars Joe Pesci as Charlie Bontempo (Joe Conforte), Helen Mirren as Grace Bontempo (Sally Conforte) and Sergio Peris-Mencheta as Armando Bruza (Oscar Bonavena). critics threw rocks and got only a 12% "fresh" from Rotten Tomatoes but I thought it was an interesting story. plays again on The Movie Channel Thursday Dec 4th @ 8:35 pm pacific time. rate it of four

Predestination had a lot of WTF moments from the half way point on. Very solid and I usually hate these going into the future, past etc type films.
I almost turned off NightCrawler after half an hour but gets much better as it goes. Gyllenhaal's character is so crazy is what makes the film. It's good, not great.

The Family Man (2000) Nicolas Cage, Tea Leoni. A guy goes from being a Wall Street mega-rich hot shot to a regular middle class family man.
I give it 2.5 stars.
Nicolas Cage is one of those hit or miss actors. For one it seems like he does way too many movies. Some of them he is good in and some I am ready to walk out of the theater or shut the TV off. I though he was good in this.

Divergent (2014) TOTAL waste of time and film stock. had to "page thru" about half of it to keep my brain from turning to mush. I put it right DOWN with Ender's Game, The Colony and After Earth (aka "after birth") as the WORST SciFi movies of the last two years
